This review is from: Emi Punk Years (Audio CD)
This album is really about three and a half stars....
The first 9 tracks are really good! It's more or less like the early stuff from Teenage Warning and what not. But, the second half is more or less sub par or just outright crap...Even they were admitted that Still from the heart was crap hence why they left emi after that dismal lp. If you're familer with later Blitz than you know what i'm talking about. The second half has that weird eighties uk pop/punk flow to it. Like Echo, Depeche Mode, New Order sound with punk....Equals overall crap...Regardless if you like punk and eighties new wave.. But, theres some hope to the second half of this album. After they left EMI they rerecord some of the better songs and brought them back to the sound the angelic upstarts were so good at.
They've been put out onto one comp thanks to captain oi called The Rarities. I recommend instead of picking up this album you pick that up and Oi! The Album which has some other great bands on it too. Which both those cd's came out on Captain Oi a long time ago before they decided to scrap the barrel and release this half ass comp of horror. But, then again it collects what Angelic Upstarts did with EMI and what happens when a commercial label picks up a political working class band and the ugliness that became of it. In the end both sides agreed to disagree and hence they left EMI.
