Outstanding performance,

This review is from: Emil Gilels: The Mozart Recordings (Audio CD)
This album ionclues an outstanding performance of two of Mozart's piano sonatas (K. 281 and K. 310). While the piano concerto is also very beautifully played, there are many similarly satisying recordings of the concerto. There is nothing like the performance of these sonatas, at least not that I know of. The feature distinguishing it from all the rest is the inner truth: you listen to the music, and you can hearly believe everything it is telling you.
You may think you know these sonatas very well, but when you hear Gilels playing them for the first time, they'll be completely new for you. I would purchase it even if only for the sake of these two sonatas.

Emil Grigoryevich Gilels is one of my favorite Mozart players among Wilhelm Kempff, Alicia de Larrocha, and Maria-João Pires.
First CD with Sonatas K.281, K.310 and the Fantasia K.397 are played with perfection. Second CD is not new to me since I have Mozart: Piano Concerto No.27; Concerto For Two Pianos K.365; Schubert: Fantasie D. 940 [Germany], which is one of his greatest recordings. I would highly recommend this 2 CD set of Mozart piano festival.

Brilliant Gilels as expected,

I am a huge Gilels fan and this CD doesn't disappoint.
The fantasia is the trademark Gilels slow tempo, but that just makes it so much more delicate. The K310 sonata is now one of my favourites sonatas. Brilliantly played. On par with his Beethoven sonatas maybe? The concerti are all very good. Its a wonderful set made even more special by the fact that he plays with his daughter. Sound quality is very good with no detracting artifacts. Fully enjoyable and a must for any Gilels fan.
