Product Description

Product Description

Marcigny, a small town nestling between the hills of Southern Burgundy, has been home to Emile Henry for the past 150 years. Faithful to its origins, the entire production is carried out here. Thanks to its clay, rich in refractory properties, Burgundy has remained a fertile area for potters, passing on their savoir-faire from generation to generation. Clay, a natural and noble material, has been used since the mists of the time to cook or preserve food. While respecting the traditional techniques, Emile Henry has introduced technological improvements (Ceradon ®) so that the dishes are more resistant to mechanical and thermal shock. Strong, durable, all Emile Henry pieces can be taken directly from the freezer to the hot oven, can go under a broiler and is microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe. The natural clay is unsurpassed for conducting and retaining heat. All pieces are perfect for everyday use and carry a 3 year warranty against defects.

Sized at 5-1/2-by-1-1/2 inches, the two pie dishes in this set are ideal for individual quiches, fruit pies, or chicken pot pies. Color saturates the outside of the fluted-rim dishes, while the inside is glazed a bright white. The glaze is so smooth that greasing is not necessary and clean-up is made especially easy. Provencal bakeware and dinnerware pieces come in several colors for contemporary mixing and matching.

Renowned for their quality and durability, high-fired Emile Henry ceramics have been crafted in the Burgundy region of France since 1850. Even after years of use, the glossy, translucent glaze on Emile Henry stoneware won't discolor, crackle, or show utensil marks. The versatile ware is safe for the freezer, oven, microwave, broiler, and dishwasher. Each Emile Henry piece, individually inspected and stamped, is backed by a three-year warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

These are very good looking and obviously high quality. But you should be aware that the 5" is measured across the top outer edge, not the bottom. In my opinion they are very small, plenty big for individual Pecan Pie but too small for Chicken Pot Pie. I was trying to match a set of bowls like these by another manufacturer that are 5" across the bottom and they turned out to be 5" across the top. So, these will be for the little grandkids instead of the adults.

This pan makes my Pilsbury crusted chicken pot pie taste like I made the crust myself. It really makes it crispy and nice.

This are small but useful: measure 4.5 inches across inner top and 3.5 inches outside bottom. I expect they would each hold 1/2 cup max of filling, then crust on top. For me, that would seem a reasonable portion of pot pie with a veggie on the side for dinner, not a meal by itself as some mentioned. I like this brand because I can use it in the toaster oven, unlike Pyrex which will shatter.

I suppose they're nice pans - I don't want to give a bad review for what they are - but they are way too small to make pot pies. I was looking for something I could use to make pot pies but were microwave safe. As soon as I opened the package I knew they weren't what I wanted. Now they're sitting in my cupboard waiting for some kind of use but honestly I can't imagine what that would be. You'd have to have a very small appetite to be satisfied by anything you could make in these.

I use many of Emile Henry's products in my kitchen and have always had excellent results baking in them.
Unfortunately, on this pie dish, the 5' inch diameter refers to the outside rim and renders the actual usable portion of the dish almost useless. It leaves not sufficent room for the filling - and - as we all know, we should not only endulge in the crust.

very nice, but no idea how anyone would be able to use them for a pot pie. Alot smaller than I had anticipated. I'll keep for single serving dessert pies, but that will be it.

I bought the Emile Henry Couleurs Individual Pie Dish back in 2007 and I suspect they are the same pie plate being sold here for a whole bunch more money. I purchased two pie plates for about $18 back then. These plates are far pricier but I am sure they are worth every penny after my experiences with using the Couleurs pie plates.

What I like most about this pie plate is how evenly, and nicely, the pie crust bakes. I use them to make hefty chicken pot pies for my husband's lunch. He says he's the envy of the workplace lunchroom as his co-workers get to see him feasting while they are eating those TV dinners :-). The pie plates add a bit of panache, and I wasn't so sure I'd like the red color, but it grows on you. I now like the color very much as I find it very cheery and delightful. The color also adds great eye appeal.

I am glad I purchased these pie plates as they make perfect little pies.

Highly recommend.
