Marcigny, a small town nestling between the hills of Southern Burgundy, has been home to Emile Henry for the past 150 years. Faithful to its origins, the entire production is carried out here. Thanks to its clay, rich in refractory properties, Burgundy has remained a fertile area for potters, passing on their savoir-faire from generation to generation. Clay, a natural and noble material, has been used since the mists of the time to cook or preserve food. While respecting the traditional techniques, Emile Henry has introduced technological improvements (Ceradon ®) so that the dishes are more resistant to mechanical and thermal shock. Strong, durable, all Emile Henry pieces can be taken directly from the freezer to the hot oven, can go under a broiler and is microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe. The natural clay is unsurpassed for conducting and retaining heat. All pieces are perfect for everyday use and carry a 3 year warranty against defects.
Sized at 5-1/2-by-1-1/2 inches, the two pie dishes in this set are ideal for individual quiches, fruit pies, or chicken pot pies. Color saturates the outside of the fluted-rim dishes, while the inside is glazed a bright white. The glaze is so smooth that greasing is not necessary and clean-up is made especially easy. Provencal bakeware and dinnerware pieces come in several colors for contemporary mixing and matching.
Renowned for their quality and durability, high-fired Emile Henry ceramics have been crafted in the Burgundy region of France since 1850. Even after years of use, the glossy, translucent glaze on Emile Henry stoneware won't discolor, crackle, or show utensil marks. The versatile ware is safe for the freezer, oven, microwave, broiler, and dishwasher. Each Emile Henry piece, individually inspected and stamped, is backed by a three-year warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

I love these little individual pie dishes. I agree with other reviewers, though, that these are best for mini cakes, cobblers and dessert pies, not necessarily for pot pies. Read morePublished on April 29, 2011 by ineedicecream
