Product Description

Marcigny, a small town nestling between the hills of Southern Burgundy, has been home to Emile Henry for the past 150 years. Faithful to its origins, the entire production is carried out here. Thanks to its clay, rich in refractory properties, Burgundy has remained a fertile area for potters, passing on their savoir-faire from generation to generation. Clay, a natural and noble material, has been used since the mists of the time to cook or preserve food. While respecting the traditional techniques, Emile Henry has introduced technological improvements (Ceradon ®) so that the dishes are more resistant to mechanical and thermal shock. Strong, durable, all Emile Henry pieces can be taken directly from the freezer to the hot oven, can go under a broiler and is microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe. The natural clay is unsurpassed for conducting and retaining heat. All pieces are perfect for everyday use and carry a 3 year warranty against defects.

This is our 3rd set Emile Henry Ramikens.
We use them all of the time.
Originally we got 2 sets at our wedding. We got the green ones with a beige interior, which seem to not be manufactured right now. We broke 4 of them over the years
and felt we needed to get another set. I decided to go with more colors, blue in this case and we may pick up another set of a different color since 8 never seems to be enough.
It will make our table more festive.

We like that they are made in France and not china. China scares me since there have been lots of problems with lead in the glazing in products from China.
Also I found out that since products from China have been tagged for using lead, their manufacturers have moved away from lead as a hardening agent which is good.
The US has policies against lead use.

But the Chinese have found another hardening agent for which we have no regulations.... Cadmium a known carcinogen and toxic metal.
Since we don't as a country regulate its use in our products I am wary of mass production tableware I eat off of that is made in China.
I prefer to go with products from countries which have been doing it the right way for at least more than a century now.
Now do I know all of this is true? Not really, but it makes me nervous.

I would rather buy from artisans and craftsmen who have been making great products all along and in smaller quantity.
These ramekins are really well made and nice sized for small kids snacks and such. We use them every day.
They look fantastic and add a bit of charm to any table.
I will buy many more sets of these over the years.

I was blessed about 30 years ago with a set of these. They were a second hand gift, but much appreciated. I didn't even know what a ramekin was, but I did figure out I could bake eggs in them.

Unfortunately, I dropped and broke two of them, so I've been handling the remaining two with extreme care. I would stop occasionally in stores and look a the ramekins, but nothing looked like it would compare to my little old ones.

When I saw these on Amazon, I stopped and went to the kitchen and looked at the bottom of one of my ramekins, and it was Emile Henry! YES!!! So I ordered a new set and I am ecstatic about them.

They are exactly the same as my old ones! Except for the color and the stamp on the bottom, they are 100% exactly the same. Yes, both old and new are stamped Emile Henry, it's just the style of the stamp that's different. And all companies change product colors occasionally.

I also had a couple Pyrex ramekins, which were OK, but really, there is no comparison in terms of quality.

And now you know, as long as you don't drop these on a hard floor, you can use them for the rest of your life. They are truly awesome.

I bought these to bake moelleaux au chocolat, a wonderful french chocolate cake. I was willing to pay a bit more for these French manufactured ramekins, compared to their Chinese competitors because of reviews regarding the glazes, and, well, because it seemed fun to have French ramekins for a French dessert. They arrived well packed and perform perfectly. I've made the cakes several times to rave reviews.

I wanted some ramekins to make pumpkin custards. I looked at many sets and ordered these as they seemed to be what I wanted. I am very happy with them and use them often.

These elegant blue ramekins were absolutely perfect for old-fashioned egg custard and cleaned up easily. It might helpful if these were sold in pairs, rather than 4s, because most recipes call for 6.
