The Emile Henry butter keeper is particularly well-designed. Its "Bell" stores almost 8 oz of butter and is inverted, unlike most others, so the butter is far less likely to slide out - unless room temperatures are excessive.

These butter keepers certainly do a good job of keeping butter at room temperature and therefore nicely spreadable. I cannot confirm how long they prevent spoilage, but it would be far longer than the butter remains uneaten in this household. I do remember that my "fridgeless" great-grandmother used one back in the 1950's and never wasted her butter because of spoilage.

I prefer to leave the butter on the kitchen counter to come to room temperature. (It is far too easy to overheat it in the microwave, resulting in inferior texture.) Two sticks will completely fill the keeper leaving enough extra for about one piece of toast.

This is a replacement I ordered (same item, direct from Amazon.com) and has the perfect glaze quality I expect from this manufacturer, unlike the previous white one, which I (over-generously) gave 3 stars.

Never in a million years did I think I'd own a butter crock. I didn't even know what they were. I saw them at Sur La Table and couldn't get them out of my head (weird). I ended up purchasing the Emile Henry butter pot from Amazon. Love the color (I purchased the cherry red). I also liked the fact that this one was made in France (not a snob, just want to make sure my butter doesn't end up having a funky chemical in it that I eat). I also liked the fact that the lid on this has enough of a lip to make it easy to pick up, yet it has a flatter top (compared to Le Creuset's version) which I think has better balance on the counter.

One of the reviews stated that they didn't like the fact that when they turn the lid (with bowl underneath), they didn't like the water dripping out. I actually LOVE this feature. This is exactly how I can tell if I need to add water to it.

I've had absolutely no issues with the butter being too soft or not staying in the lid/bowl. The butter has been PERFECT! How could anyone enjoy pancakes ever again without this? Toast? If I go on vacation, I might have to pack my butter crock.

Lastly, I did benefit from the 4 for 3 promotion at Amazon. Good deal all around.

This pot lives up to the quality I expect from Emile Henry. It's beautiful and well made. The design is better than others I've seen, with the opening smaller than the lid, making a "vee" when the lid is upside down in the water. I would have given it 5 stars except that the butter slides out when the room temp is warm, above about 75 degrees. I'm not sure about the exact temperature that I started finding butter floating in the water, but we had a cool summer and my house is air conditioned, so it wasn't too hot. When I think about it, I can't imagine a better design than this one, so I'm thinking this kind of device just isn't for warm temperatures. Other than that, it's great.

This is a perfect way to store your butter at room temperature. It's attractive and works well (as long as you remember to change the water as directed). It holds about 2 sticks of butter, is easy to clean, and provides spreadable butter whenever you want it!

This replaced another butter keeper that didn't keep the butter inside the inverted dish so it was always swimming in water. The shape of this one not only works better to keep the butter enclosed, it also lets you use a minimum amount of water to keep the butter submerged.
As with all Emile Henry pieces, it's attractive and well made.

I had never even heard of a butter pot until my friend showed me hers. Since we only use butter she assumed that we knew about this product. I have only been using it for about five days but can tell you that we love having the butter spreadable without softening it in the microwave. The delivery was quick and the item was packaged for non breakage. We are loving this item.

I just got this in the mail last week. It works great so far!! No butter falls out, it stays in the cup part well. I put the softened butter inside then put it in the fridge overnight, it's been out on the counter ever since with no leakage and the butter is always fresh. I changed the water 1 time in about 5 days. So nice and it looks cute! I bought the yellow one :)
