It's cheerful, it keeps your butter spreadable and keeps bugs/mice/etc from being attracted to it and keeps it from spoiling. For years I'd been meaning to get a butter bell, but finally in our 100+ year old house this year we found a butter-overdosed mouse exiting the kitchen (keeled over) and I noticed little knaw marks in the butter I'd left out the night before...and, well, I overnighted this sucker. Glad I did!

*I chose this butter pot over other similar items because I liked Emile Henry's lead and cadmium standards. According to the Emile Henry website, "There is no lead or cadmium in our products, all of the glazes meet California Prop 65, and all of the products are 100% food safe."
*Although neither the butter pot nor the packaging indicated where it was made, I called Emile Henry and confirmed that all Emile Henry products are made in France and contain no lead or cadmium. As long as this is true, I'm happy. *The function of the pot itself is great. We enjoy having soft butter around.

This is a great butter crock. It fits 2 sticks of butter, and I've found that I can still use it with one stick w/o any problems. The butter doesn't fall out like I've read in other reviews. This is a great invention. No more thinly sliced butter for my toast and then waiting for it to become spreadable. This is much more convenient and I wish I'd known this existed years ago!

I wasn't able to see this at a store before I purchased it on Amazon, but I was hoping it would be a color that would match a Fiestaware color. I thought it might be close to Sunflower, but I was thrilled to see that it's an almost perfect match to Marigold-a beautiful orangey/gold. I like that it's made in France, not China, and it's slightly bigger than other crocks. It fits about half a pound of butter (2 sticks). It's perfect for the fresh hunks of butter at the farmers' market. I've only had it a day, but I'm very happy with it so far.
