Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Ideal for baking lasagna, cobbler, and macaroni and cheese, this 10-by-13-inch dish is a traditional French shape and has an attractive ridged exterior that makes it welcome in country kitchens. It can go directly from freezer to oven, into the microwave, under the broiler, and through the dishwasher without harming its glossy, lead-free glaze, which does not absorb odors or moisture and is so hard it will not crack, discolor, or scratch--even if food is cut on it. Beautiful enough to grace a dining table, it measures 2-5/8 inches deep and weighs 4.6 pounds.

Since 1850, Emile Henry cookware and bakeware have been made in Burgundy, where a unique clay is kiln-fired into a ceramic unsurpassed for conducting and retaining heat. Prized worldwide, Emile Henry products come in a wide range of colors, from the bright hues (with white interiors) of the Couleurs line to the earth tones (with creamy interiors) of the rustic Le Potier line, of which this green dish is a glowing example. Each piece is stamped with the year it was made and the initials of the craftsman responsible for its perfection and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware., August 19, 2004

If you are thinking of buying this pan, please reconsider.

I returned this pan twice: The first time, I returned it for a replacement; the second time, I returned it for good! Amazon.com does not list this product as a factory second, yet that is what they are selling. I have never been unhappy with anything I bought from Amazon (and I have bought a lot!), but this time I was sorely disappointed. When I pointed out to Amazon this item was falsely advertised (yes, it's on sale at a discounted price, but one assumes it's just on sale--not that you will be receiving an item that is flawed--and yes, the flaws are noticeable, even if only cosmetic). I bought it to replace the exact same pan I purchased at a Williams-Sonoma outlet (for less than 1/3 the price!), which cracked after only a year (and I took very good care of it). So when I was sent not once but twice a factory second, I didn't want to chance another purchase I might regret. Don't get me wrong-- the pan is beautiful and performs well (at least, it did for a short while)--it's just not a light investement. For $40, one should expect to receive a product that doesn't have a big bubble on the side and noticeable flaws in the glaze--and lasts longer than one year!

Amazon.com really should list this item as a factory second. Buyer beware. (Oh, I also contaced Emile Henry direct, too. No response. So much for customer service--on both accounts...)

Emile Henry bakeware is fantastic and I use it for lots of stuff, not just lasagna. I ordered this dish as a replacement for one I had for years but I accidentally broke it. I was so upset when I broke it I ordered this one right then and it came just two days later! Cleans so easily and looks new after years of use! No kitchen is complete without this dish!
