Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Ideal for baking small portions of cobbler and macaroni and cheese, this 8-inch, 1/2-quart oval dish is a traditional French shape and has a smooth exterior that makes it welcome in contemporary kitchens. It can go directly from freezer to oven, into the microwave, under the broiler, and through the dishwasher without harming its glossy, lead-free glaze, which does not absorb odors or moisture and is so hard it will not crack, discolor, or scratch--even if food is cut on it. Beautiful enough to grace a dining table, it measures 1-1/2 inches deep.

Since 1850, Emile Henry cookware and bakeware have been made in Burgundy, where a unique clay is kiln-fired into a ceramic unsurpassed for conducting and retaining heat. Prized worldwide, Emile Henry products come in a wide range of colors, from the earth tones (with creamy interiors) of the rustic Le Potier line to the bright hues (with white interiors) of the Couleurs line, of which this all-white dish is a gleaming example. Each piece is stamped with the year it was made and the initials of the craftsman responsible for its perfection and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

These dishes are beautifully designed, both sleek and sturdy. They make very attractive serving dishes, but they're really only practical for one or two people. However, if you're making a meal for yourself or for yourself and one other person, they're great -- they hold two reasonably-sized portions of anything from casserole to apple crisp. You can pop them in the freezer later and then reheat them in the oven with no problem, and they clean up very easily. I definitely recommend them, even if you generally cook for more than two people -- these would still be great for desserts or for serving baked side dishes.

Unfortunately, I ordered these twice and received rectangular bakers instead. This was *not* Amazon's fault, but Emile Henry's for mislabling the box as oval bakers when they were not. In fairness to Amazon, they tried to make it right but had a difficult time doing so since the contents of the box were mislabled.

Althought I would have preferred the oval bakers, I kept the rectangular ones and do like them.
