Amazon.com Review

Ideal for serving onion soup, these two 16-ounce bowls are a traditional French shape, with lion's head handles and smooth exteriors that make them welcome in contemporary kitchens. They can go directly from freezer to oven, into the microwave, under the broiler, and through the dishwasher without harming their glossy, lead-free glaze, which does not absorb odors or moisture and is so hard it will not crack, discolor, or scratch--even if food is cut on it. They have pedestal bottoms, bulge voluptuously, and measure 4-1/4 inches in diameter at the top and 3-1/2 inches high.

Since 1850, Emile Henry cookware and bakeware have been made in Burgundy, where a unique clay is kiln-fired into a ceramic unsurpassed for conducting and retaining heat. Prized worldwide, Emile Henry products come in a wide range of colors, from the earth tones (with creamy interiors) of the rustic Le Potier line to the bright hues (with white interiors) of the Couleurs line, of which these all-white bowls are gleaming examples. Each piece is stamped with the year it was made and the initials of the craftsman responsible for its perfection and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

5.0 out of 5 stars useful/great price/ neat addition to your kitchen, February 14, 2003
I purchased 12 of these, used them for a chili party. They hold a good serving and dress up the table with the design, the cobalt blue is a deep true cobalt,I put them in the dishwasher,no chipping,I do put a papertowel between them when I stack them away in the pantry.I own a lot of Emile Henry, very high quality, well worth the investment, these will be passed down to my childern.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Now that I've received this product (3 sets = total 6 bowls), I would have liked to know that the porcelain glaze has a few minor pits in each bowl and the lion's head is not very well defined (as compared to the Williams Sonoma product--granted at a higher price). I am pleasantly surprised to see that the bottoms are flat and will not hold water in the dishwasher.
