Product Description

Amazon.com Review

In this two-piece little dish, Emile Henry's superior materials meet up with an ingenious design for keeping butter both fresh and spreadable. Use is easy and requires a minimum of maintenance--simply remembering to change the water in the dish every three or four days. Here's how it works: Fill the upper dish with 6 ounces of butter and the lower dish with a few ounces of fresh water. Invert the top dish, and the water forms a seal around the butter, ensuring its freshness even while it sits on the counter to stay soft enough to spread easily. Measuring 4-1/2 by 3-1/4 by 4-1/2 inches, the dish is tidy and compact, cute in design, and safe in the dishwasher and microwave.

Dating back to 1850, Emile Henry has been crafting bakeware and tableware from high-fired premium Burgundy clay in France. The pieces are incredible durable, handsome yet functional, and designed to hold heat well. A special surface treatment ensures that the glossy glaze is scratch-resistant and does not chip, crack, or craze under typical use. Each piece is individually inspected, comes in a variety of fresh-looking colors, and includes a three-year warranty against defects. --Emily Bedard

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes butter the perfect consistency for spreading, December 1, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Emile Henry Le Potier Butter Pot, Blue (Kitchen)
It is such a pleasure to enjoy the use of spreadable butter on a variety of foods again. The consistency of the butter in the Emile Henry Le Potier butter pot is always PERFECT! I expected it to be too soft, but it's not. Just leave the pot on the counter and refresh the water twice a week. It's simple!
The opening is a little smaller than I would like, but I have no difficulty getting the butter out. I can get the majority of it out with a regular knife. When it is almost completely empty, I use a small spatula to get every last bit of the butter. I wash it in the dishwasher, but have also washed it by hand. It cleans easily if it is soaked in hot soapy water.
What a perfect gift this would be for all of my low carb diet friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars functional beauty, April 17, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Emile Henry Le Potier Butter Pot, Blue (Kitchen)
While I understand the previous reviewer's comment about the difficulty of getting the last of the butter from the crock, that is little to complain about in something that is both pretty and useful. Those of us who dislike trying to spread hard butter on a piece of toast will find this a great device. The butter stays fresh and soft and you can drive your guests crazy by asking them to guess what the dish is for.

2.0 out of 5 stars Quality material, useless design, December 28, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Emile Henry Le Potier Butter Pot, Blue (Kitchen)
Had wanted a butter crock for years; fell in love with this one in cobalt blue. But when I tried to use it, discovered the design resulted in a difficult to use, unsanitary product. The insertion opening at the top flares out to a bottom. This means that unless you have a curved knife, it will be difficult to get all of the butter out. Worse yet, there is a small groove around the inside bottom that is exceptionally hard to clean. Love Emile Henry, but this design is all wrong. Took the ones I bought back to the store and let them know why.
