Product Description

The Salt Pig is a charming and handy way to keep your favorite salt at-hand. The wide opening accommodates even the largest of hands, and the slightly arched hood helps keep your salt free of food debris while cooking. The simple, yet classic shape of this piece is further emphasized by the vibrant colors and deep hues of the glazes.

Practically speaking, this vessel has a wide open mouth at just the right angle.

My boyfriend had drooled over the Emile Henry salt pigs at the Sur le Table store on our vacation, so I decided to drop the money and get it for him as a surprise gift. The quality is amazing and the design is just perfect. This slate color is so rich and luxurious, I was very pleasantly surprised. It was a perfect gift, and it makes him smile whenever he uses it to make me delicious food.

I've had several different salt pigs before, and have loved their functionality and ease of use. My last one was the Nigella Lawson egg-shaped one (http://www.amazon.com/BlissHome-Nigella-Lawsons-Living-Kitchen/dp/B00200JQP8) which was the color I wanted and looked great on the counter. But it tipped over easy and met an untimely death when my Kitchen Aid mixer vibrated just a little too much and sent it sailing over my counter top edge... I was going to reorder, but it was on backorder, so thought I'd try this. I like the design better and it feels much sturdier (I've never felt like it was going to tip over.) I wish it was just a little bigger (a man's hand might not fit in as easily) and available in black, but the slate color (kind of a cross between a charcoal grey and dark taupe) is attractive and it keeps my salt MUCH drier than any other salt pig I have owned- so that is a big plus! Overall, I am very pleased with this and would buy other items from Emile Henry based on this purchase.

I love the colors and textures of Emile Henry products, and this one is the same as I have come to expect. It is another nice color to add to me kitchen. I also prefer the 45 degree decline with the wide opening, over some other options that are 90 degrees and one size through the entire opening. I find this more easily accessible to my larger hands than the other options.

I thought this would have a brushed coarse look but it doesn't, it is definately a glazed ceramic and I would have selected another color had I realized that. It is AWESOME though, I love it! Miraculously keeps the salt dry and I'd recommend to anyone, it's a bit pricey but I haven't looked back.

I worried that the salt would become clumped due to the open neck, but the design is exactly as described. The finish inside is designed to keep the salt perfectly. The opening is a nice size, making it easy to grab the salt. Love it!

I used to have a small dish near the stove with some sea salt to sprinkle on stuff. I always felt funny that it was "open" to the air or random bits of oil splattering from cooking etc.

This design protects the salt a bit, though not fully. It is also attractive and has a nice heft to it. It sits solidly on the counter and doesn't slide easily. Size is perfect: I have small hands and they fit in easily to grab the salt. Someone with larger hands could still use it.

I am almost embarassed to admit how much I love this pig. I read the other reviews before I bought it and thought that these people giving rave reviews for a salt pig must be a little unhinged. Well, I am now one of them. This is now one of my favorite kitchen buys. Ever.

My wife bought me an Emile Henry Salt Pig for Christmas last year, and I think I've used it every day since then. I had a friend ask what the fuss was about until she was making salt rolls on Thanksgiving and asked where I kept the kosher salt. I pointed to the pig and I'm pretty sure from her reaction that she will be putting a pig on her wish list this year.

Practically speaking, this vessel has a wide open mouth at just the right angle. I can get my big hand all the way in there when the salt is at a low level, and I can swivel the angle away from anything that might be splatter-prone on the stove. The outer glaze has a very nice appearance, and the inner texture does its job of keeping moisture out of the salt. Overall - I love my pig! It's worth every penny.
