Pucci, the pioneering Italian fashion brand

The prince of prints, his vision and legacy

Emilio Pucci (1914-1992) had a passion for women, a visionary sense of style, and an eye for color and design. With these talents he created a fashion house unlike any other. By the early 50s his boutique on the isle of Capri was catering to wealthy sophisticates, heiresses and movie stars buying his Capri pants , silk scarves and lightweight separates. By the end of the decade, Jacqueline Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe were wearing his dresses, and by the mid-60s the label was synonymous with the gilded lifestyle of an international jetset. Today, the house remains as vibrant as ever Victoria Beckham, Elizabeth Hurley, and Kylie Minogue are adherents and recently celebrated its 60th anniversary.

The Pucci story is a modern epic with its roots in renaissance Italy: the brand s founder, the Marchese Emilio Pucci di Barsento, was a charismatic aristocrat whose lineage extends back to the 14th century. It is a story of evolution: how a family company grew from one tiny store to an international brand with 47 boutiques worldwide (and a presence in 250 more). And finally, it is a tale of innovation: Pucci was one of the first brands to bear a logo, and a pioneer of diversification into interiors, athletic wear and accessories. It introduced free-moving, lightweight fabrics, pop art prints, and a new color palette into womenswear, and constantly pushed fabric and printing technologies.

Featuring hundreds of photographs, drawings, and candid shots from the family archive, this XL tome captures the breathtaking elegance and drama of a unique brand. Vanessa Friedman s text places Emilio s achievements in the context of fashion history, and provides insight into the remarkable Pucci dynasty.

Limited and numbered edition of 10.000 copies; each copy is bound with an original Pucci fabric, offering a choice of dozens of different covers.

The beautiful book is huge, not just "coffee table size", it could BE the coffee table! And every single one of its 400-plus oversize pages features full-page, full color photos and drawings of Pucci creations: clothes, fabrics, clothes, models wearing Pucci, beautiful scarves and, did I mention, clothes? Fantastic, exactly what any Pucci lover has been waiting for.

We have always loved Pucci and have waited and waited for a book that really showed the extraordinary genius of Emilio Pucci in its full glory. This book more than does just that. Some biography and discussion of the development of the style throughout, but mostly lots and lots of Pucci designs and clothing galore.

Just imagine a book in a huge 14-1/2 inch square format with more than 400 pages filled with full-page color photographs, both vintage and contemporary, of wonderful Pucci clothing and accessories, beautiful models wearing fabulous Pucci creations and full color reproductions of the original design drawings. Or a drawing, in full color, for an original Pucci design turned into an exquisite creation. The book covers decades of design and none of it looks in the least dated. And speaking of "covers", the book is even bound in a Pucci fabric which is then protected in a Brodart-like wrap.

Full disclosure: my wife wore Pucci at our wedding forty years ago; solid purple Pucci silk blouse with a silk velvet miniskirt (it was the 'Sixties) in a gorgeous complementary Pucci pattern. Perfect with her red hair.

Even if you simply enjoy great style and fashion in general, you will love this book. Well worth the price, this is an instant classic and sure to become a collector's item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable! August 17, 2010
Format:Hardcover
This book is the long-overdue definitive reference on Emilio Pucci's work.

Though $130 may seem like a lot to spend, this hefty book is well worth the price. No expense was spared in its making. It is filled with high quality, expertly chosen color photos from the Pucci archives and features family stories from the Marchese's wife Cristina and daughter Laudomila. I particularly liked how the authors juxtaposed photos of things or places which inspired Pucci, for example pictures of the interior of Pucci's villa in Florence, with the corresponding fabric. This really enabled me to see Pucci's patterns through Pucci's eyes.

Though I spent hours just looking at the pictures, the book is also well-written and well-researched. I really liked the amount of detail regarding the dates of certain patterns, and thanks to this book, I was able to figure out the date of one of my favorite vintage Pucci scarves.

If I had to make any complaint I wish there had been a larger section devoted to Pucci handbags. So that's what my "complaint" amounts to, that a huge (it must weight 20 lbs.) book could have been even bigger.

If you are a fan of Emilio Pucci, don't miss this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pucci intoxication!!! February 2, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is truly amazing and looking through it is like losing yourself in the world of Pucci! What a dream!! However, I was disappointed that Amazon says there are dozens of covers to choose from, yet when ordering there is no choice. You take what you get. Still, it's a great book and a must have for Pucci addicts.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG... THE BEST!!! October 16, 2010
Format:Hardcover
What more is there to say (that others haven't already covered) except don't wait... buy your copy before it's too late!

Simply stunning, this book is a work of art itself and so substantial it's practically furniture!!!

I bought mine at a bookstore and absolutely LOVE The silk fabric cover which is completely different than any of those shown here. Apparently, there are many to choose from.
