Great read-aloud story about friends, September 17, 2001
This review is from: Emily and Alice (Paperback)
This is one of a few select books that appealed to my 2 1/2 year old upon first reading. The illustrations are wonderful and the girls are so likeable. The book starts when Alice moves next door to Emily - Emily wants to meet her, but is nervous that Alice won't like her pigtails, striped socks, or peanut butter cookies. Fortunately, the somewhat more hip Alice (with her long hair and sandals) likes Emily right away and they decide to be best friends. It's a great book for kids who are ready to try longer books and want more of a story than some picture books offer. But it is LONG (three separate stories in chapter form), so this is better for kids who have a good attention span (or for parents who are good at summarizing the text while reading aloud!).
