Product Description

Chess is a recreational and competitive game played between two players. The game is played on a square chequered chessboard with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight square. At the start, each player (one controlling the white pieces, the other controlling the black pieces) controls sixteen pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The object of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king, whereby the king is under immediate attack (in "check") and there is no way to remove it from attack on the next move. Backgammon is a board game for two players in which the playing pieces are moved according to the roll of dice. A player wins by removing all of his checkers from the board. There are many variants of backgammon, most of which share common traits. English draughts, also called American checkers or "straight checkers", commonly called checkers in the U.S., but commonly called draughts in some other countries, is a form of the draughts board game played on an 8×8 board with 12 pieces on each side that may only move and capture forward.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By M. Staley on June 1, 2010
I bought this set as a gift, and the receiver loved it! Even I was impressed with the quality of the board and pieces. The set is a bit lighter in color than what's seen in the available photos but the quality is still top-notch. The pieces are individually wrapped and everything fits inside quite snugly. You can't see it in the photos, but the set clasps with two small but strong magnets, so there are not outward bulky snaps or latches to keep the board from laying flat. The surface of the board (both the outward chess/checkers and the inner backgammon board) are very smooth and level. Overall, it's a great set. I'm sure we will get much use out of it.

Thus far, I suppose, I have two negative issues. The various pieces and backgammon shakers fit snugly. Very snugly. This can easily be fixed however, by taking the time to rearrange everything or simply taking out the shakers (which we don't use anyway), but I foresee it becoming annoying at times. The second issue is the shipping costs and method. I'm not a fan of Fedex, but the package did arrive on time, on the very last day specified. The cost was on the expensive side in my opinion ($12 for me, including a base price plus a price per pound), but in all honesty, the quality of the set was worth it.

I'm very happy with this product and with the seller. I would certainly buy from them again!

I gave this set 3 in one daughter for the new year. He became very popular in our family, especially chess and backgammon. Size good quality satisfied. The colors are crisp. A pleasure to hold in the hands of the figure. I am happy with purchase.

I decided to get a chess set and wasnt sure if my kids would actually play this or forget about this game as they do everything else. They use this all the time. They play Backgammon, checkers and chess. For the price, you cant beat this. Do the research, you get 3 games, game pieces and a folding board. When closed, the set is tight and heavy. It inst flimsy. I dont fret over a little mistreatment as it only cost $40 but this has stood strong with 5 kids playing with it for over a year. It also is a nice sunday incentive to communicate with the kids as I take turns playing a chess match with each of my kids.

I bought the chess set for a gift and was overall satisfied. The description and picture make it look a little more upscale than it is. Not sure why it is called "Emily." There was nothing in/on the package to indicate this name. The box says "Gatogi." Not sure if this is a brand or style. The picture on the box shows nice detail on the checker pieces; however, there is no such detail on the actual pieces.
The set is nice and the board seems solid. It closes nicely and lays flat. We will be keeping it.
