5.0 out of 5 stars Emily and Daisy
I disagree with reviewers that think children's books need complicated plots; very young children NEED stories where nothing happens!
However, things DO happen in this book. Emily meets quite a few characters, learns consequences, and also learns about unseen helpers.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Poorly-Written Story with Beautiful Paintings, July 30, 2009
This review is from: Emily and Daisy (Hardcover)
Elsa Beskow books are truly a feast for the eyes. The paintings delightful, peaceful, and innocent. While many of her books also tell a sweet little story, they are not literary masterpieces. This book is no exception on either count. The pictures are wonderful and a joy to look at. However, this book has the most glaring lack of good story to go along with those lovely pictures. Reading it out loud to my children was almost painful. They have only asked for me to read Emily and Daisy one time. Peter in Blueberry Land, Children of the Forest, and (our favorite) Pele's New Suit are stories we read over and over. Consider one of Elsa Beskow's other books with a better tale accompanying her artwork rather than Emily and Daisy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best of Beskow, October 5, 2009

I agree with the other reviewer, I was disappointed with this Beskow book. The pictures are nice, however the story is seriously lacking. It in no way compares to Woody, Hazel, and Little Pip or Peter in Blueberry Land. Buy other Elsa Beskow books first!

5.0 out of 5 stars Charming book, January 6, 2011

This book does not deserve the bad reviews! It is a great story- just as good as all the other Elsa books we have. I found no translation problems at all. My daughter loved it and asks to read it all the time. I can't imagine someone NOT loving this story!

We love Elsa Beskow, and I feel that this is one of her best! Emily and Daisy is such a sweet story, where the child gets to be the hero- and not in a disobedient or sassy way (as in so many kid's stories). This book is charming and sweet, and highly recommended!
