Emily Miller is a Second Amendment warrior. Chapters alternate between her personal story of navigating a completely absurd bureaucratic maze to exercise an individual, fundamental right which "shall not be infringed," and a thorough analysis of the lies, ignorance, and distortion used by the left, the media, and the current administration to undermine your rights. Ms. Miller included several appendices and meticulously documented her work with references to primary sources which increases the value of this resource immensely. Ms. Miller's writing style is easy and entertaining, making for a rapid read without losing any of the substance.

Pro-gunner - Read this book. Understand how far we have fallen from the founders' wishes and get to work.

Anti-gunner - you say you have an open mind? Prove it! Read this book and find fault with the logic...if you can.

"Emily Gets Her Gun" is a very well researched book about gun control across the nation and major players such as Obama and Bloomberg. I was expecting a story. A story that, for the most part, I had already read in the Washington Times. I was very wrong. It is not just about DC. Emily has cleaned it, polished it, and parsed it in a manner that fills in and completes the national story in a manner that I now realize was not available to her in her daily column. It is fresh in a way that I did not expect. The icing on the cake is the notes section. I have heard gun owners and anti-gunners alike say many things that they 'knew' but could not provide an informational source. Emily has extensive notes that give dates and web links located toward the back of the book so they do not get in the way of the reader and yet still are available for the thinker, researcher, and curiosity seeker.

Emily lives in Washington DC, a place with the worst violent crime in the country. They also have the most restrictive "gun control" in the country, which should give anyone brighter than a black hole a good clue as to how well "gun control" prevents crime. Only the criminals in DC are willing and able to carry guns, and use them on innocent people.

This lady suffered a frightening incident where she felt she was in serious danger. She decided to take personal responsibility for her own safety, and looked into buying a gun. What a nightmare! But she went the full course, jumped through all the hoops, paid large amounts of money and suffered long and petty insults to her intelligence, character and integrity to obtain "permission" to buy a common tool. She was and is totally "law abiding," even bending over backwards to be understanding and compliant.

So, after a very long time, she now has a gun in her home, just in case. While she is out on the mean streets, in a subway, shopping, at work or ANYWHERE else, she is as helpless as ever. She can't carry her gun in Washington DC.

Maybe she'll write another book if that changes, or if she moves to some place with a rational attitude toward those who refuse to be helpless victims.

No matter what side of the gun debate you are on, you need to read this book. It brings into sharp focus the problems with attempts at gun control. The criminals have no problems obtaining illegal firearms, but a law abiding citizen like Emily are made to jump through expensive hoops to obtain a gun.

Worse yet, when the need for self protection was immediate, the misguided laws put lengthy time delays into the equation.

Great book about the terrible politics in our nation's capital (Washington D.C.) when trying to legally purchase a handgun there. It also details the expenses and procedures (both extensive) incurred in legally making a purchase.

So apparently she made this whole "home invasion" story up. Hilarious.

After seeing Emily Miller speak in Washington D.C. last March, I liked what I heard and picked up this book. I enjoyed reading about her personal experience in purchasing a handgun in the most restrictive gun zone in the country. Even living in an unfriendly gun state myself (California), I couldn't help but be amazed.

Ms. Miller alternates her chapters between general gun facts, and her journey in obtaining a firearm by navigating Washington D.C.'s unorganized bureaucracy. She even says this confusing process is intentional in order to frustrate and discourage law-abiding citizens in the District.

Some of her facts are eye-opening, such as the fact that "no registered gun has ever been used in a crime in D.C." Yet the process to lawfully obtain a firearm is incredibly difficult.

Finally, Ms. Miller tells the story of several citizens who got arrested for the most trivial violations related to guns. If you had to read just one part of the book, I'd read these. It can be frustrating to read, but I thank her for publicizing their stories.

This book is infuriating as it exposes more and more of the manipulation and politics in an attempt erode the rights of the people. Emily Miller does a great job of laying it out in a factual and logical manner. It exposes the manipulation of the victims and survivors of some of the most tragic events in the US and how there is no shame by the administration to continue to use these people to further their agenda. If anyone is in doubt that statistics can be manipulated to make a point, can be slanted to fit an agenda, or controlled by the person with biggest check book - think again. You can't argue with the public facts that Emily found and referenced that shows exactly how the information is twisted. The current gun laws, if enforced would more be more than adequate; if they were enforced. It only further demonstrates how enforcing isn't the agenda - but being able to confiscate is the goal. It also references how the NRA and others that disagree with what the administration wants has been vilified for pointing out the short sighted views and calling out their intentions.

The book is humorous. I can't believe what she has had to go through to obtain a weapon that she can't even carry in a concealed fashion. What really resonated with me were her efforts to decide what firearm to purchase. It had to be functional, fit her hand, but it needed to look good. When I purchased my first handgun (which was the day after Obama's re-election)it had to fit right, meet the need for which it was intended (the first one was for home defense), but it also had to look darn good! I have since purchased several more handguns and each one had to look right to me as well as have the appropriate mechanics.
