About the Author

Award-winning author Joyce B. Lohse grew up in Illinois, where she sometimes spent her school recess writing stories and poems. She is author of a dual biography of Colorado's first governor and his wife entitled: First Governor, First Lady: John and Eliza Routt of Colorado, and two other biograpies for young readers: Justina Ford: Medical Pioneer, and Unsinkable: The Molly Brown Story. She is happiest when researching and writing about women of the West.

More About the Author

Colorado author Joyce B. Lohse combines her journalism degree from Northern Illinois University with a background in genealogy and western history to write biographies for readers of all ages. She is administrator for Women Writing the West, and writes history articles for magazines such as True West, Steamboat, Colorado Central, and Women Out West. Book awards include 2012 Best Biography from Colorado Independent Publishers Associations, and 2010 Best YA Nonfiction Book from the Colorado Authors' League. In 2008, she accepted induction into the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame for her historic biography subject, Eliza Routt. Joyce's research has led her to lurk in cemeteries and archives in search of stories about pioneers and ancestors.

"I combine journalism, genealogy and history to write biographies. My goal is to preserve and share stories about pioneers and history of the American West through books, articles and presentations." -- Joyce B. Lohse
