5.0 out of 5 stars A Swishy Tale Indeed!, March 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this book with the intention of giving it to my 10 year old neice for her birthday. Since I had received it a few weeks before her birthday party I decided to read it myself to see whether she'd like it. Little did I know I would get sucked into the world of Emily Windsnap and her adventures! It's the perfect book for her age group (and those of us who are kids at heart!) and I found myself being pulled back into the book time and time again, just looking waiting to find out what would happen next to Emily and her friends. It's perfect for someone who dreams of exciting adventures in far away places.

I purchased these books for my 7-year old, 2nd grade daughter (who reads near 4th grade level) for christmas. She had already read the second book from her school library. When she brought it home I was a little skeptical because I thought it would be a little hard for her, but it was such a fun story for her that it motivated her to read and push the envelope of her ability. She loves these books so much that she read two of them before the holiday was over. No more setting the timer to make sure she gets the recommended 15 minutes a day of reading. The perfect story for girls. Some parts are a little scary for her age, but she loved it. I expect she'll want to read the series again in a few years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emily Windsnap Three Swishy Mermaid Tales books 1-3, August 25, 2009

This review is from: Emily Windsnap: Three Swishy Mermaid Tales: Books 1-3 (Paperback)
Its great when you can get such a terrific book series collected together. Emily Windsnap is no regular girl. While her mom is a surface dweller her dad is a mer man who has been imprisoned by King Neptune for marrying and having a child with a human. Despite living on a house boat Emily has always stayed clear of the ocean. When she goes swimming and turns into a mermaid she learns she the classic movie type mermaid where one has fins in the water and legs out of the water. With her new mermaid friend Shona help she learn why mer people fear humans get the aid needed to rescue her dad.

King Neptune moves the family to a island community where humans and mer folk live together. Emily starts going to mermaid school with her new best friend Shona but makes the mistake of accepting a dare into a forbidden cave and wakes Neptune's treasure guardian The kraken. Its up to Emily and Shona to team up and take care of the monster before it comes after everyone. One of the things I find interesting in this book is the school classes Emily taken and how her parents had partly sunk the house book and fix trap doors in each room so that her dad can visit with his wife and daughter in each room.

In the final story while collecting the treasure lost in book 2 Emily finds a diamond ring that Neptune had once given his lover. Anger because the ring reminds him of the woman lost to his life and the ring won't come off the finger of someone that represents both worlds on land and water Neptune will force her to choose to be fully human or fully mermaid. Meanwhile her mother is getting board living in paradise and start to think that Emily mermaid lessons are useless in the real world and wish she would better her education. Emily must find the castle in the mist to get the ring off and convince Neptune that he shouldn't forget his past love so she can get her life return to normal.

I am now the favorite aunt! I bought this series for my 9 year old niece, as she and her parents were looking everywhere to purchase this series for her. This series of Emily Windsnap books seems to be the rage where she lives with the 3rd and 4th grade girls. She loves it and proudly announced to me a week after I gave the series to her, "I'm on book two already"! I love being a factor in motivating her to read!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Neice Loved This Series!, January 7, 2009
This review is from: Emily Windsnap: Three Swishy Mermaid Tales: Books 1-3 (Paperback)
I hate getting toys for my neices & nephews for Christmas, it's such a waste, so I bought each of them a book series that I thought they would enjoy. I looked everywhere for these books & was grateful to find the whole series on Amazon. My niece was so excited to get all of these books in one pack she sat for days and read until she was finished with all them & then started them again.
Amazon delievered them very timely & in general I was very happy with the transaction.

My 8 year old daughter loves this series. By the way, she is a VS (very stong) gifted student, who has read many books far above grade level. She likes these books, because they are just plain entertaining. Not everything a childs reads has to be some cerebral endeavor. Think of these as a Nickelodeon or Disney channel series, but instead of just 'watching' like a passive observer, you child is reading! A book doesn't always have to harbor some great thought provoking message. It can simply be a means of escape and great fun :)

I purchased this for my niece for Christmas. She loves to read fantasy books. I don't know what she thinks of it yet because I haven't had a chance to give it to her yet.
