5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Tooth Delightful Fairy Tale March 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Queen Emily's Enchanted Kingdom: Sugarland

By Lee-Ann Graff-Vinson, Illustrated by Emily Ann Vinson

This little jewel is an imaginative creative colorful creation. The best part is this was written and the pictures were created by a mother and daughter team from Canada. It is a sweet short tale about a dream the little girl has and it has a valuable message in the words.

In today's times the countries and the masses need more fairy tale stories like these because as the years pass and parents are more worry about taking care of their families with working more hours and less quality time with their children, every lesson learn is a future investment in our children's health and well-being.
This author and her daughter are on the right track in creating adorable tales using life lessons to entertain the whole family. As a mother I wished there were more books like these out there years ago. This team touches upon a subject we all need to think about in an unique style.

As a reader I would store these author's books in my library and share with my children and grandchildren, over and over again. In these busy times we need reminders and to spend more quality time with our children and these books are the tools to teach and learn lessons and how to read in a fun way.

5.0 out of 5 stars When Bad Sweets Happen to Good Kids February 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a review of Lee-Ann Graff-Vinsons's Queen Emily's Enchanted Kingdom - Sugarland.

This childrens book is the first of a continuing series with the plucky Emily who turns into a queen after she falls asleep at night. When Stargazer, her loyal pink Unicorn wakes her up, Queen Emily finds her entire kingdom has turned into doughnuts, candy, and ice cream. She takes advantage of the situation at first, despite the warnings of her Unicorn aide, and stuffs herself with the yummies. What happens next is a fanciful tale about the dangers of eating too many sweets.

The illustrations showing what happens to Queen Emily are reminiscent of children's drawings from their grade school years and, at the end Emily Ann Vinson, the author's Daughter, is the one who contributed them. I personally think it was a sensational way for Lee-Ann to include her child in the making of this book. My two nephews (seven and nine) found the book 'awesome,' 'funny,' and 'they wished it would happen to them.'

Since childhood obesity is a growing problem in the Unites States and Great Britain, this book would do a world of good to children who would rather have a pop-tart than an orange as a snack. The story isn't preachy, has a wonderful conclusion, and would entertain your aged (2 -10) children. Five Stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sweet & Sugary May 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A sweet story about a Queen whose kingdom is overrun by sweets. I imagine it serves as a nice reminder to children about "treats" and think it's kind of cute that the author got her daughter to illustrate the book. the only thing I might have done differently is have at least one character exercising a bit of wisdom throughout the story. Although I suppose the unicorn did try to warn the queen about indulging too much. Perhaps if Stargazer had been a little bit more vocal? just to get the point across a little bit harder...

5.0 out of 5 stars So Funny and Cute May 16, 2012

Queen Emily's Enchanted Kingdom Sugarland is about Emily who goes to sleep at night and awakes (in her dream) in an Enchanted Kingdom where she becomes Queen Emily. In this book, Queen Emily awakes to find her kingdom covered in sweet, sweet treats. Does she start out trying to find out why her kingdom has mini donuts on the merry-go-round and a swimming pool full of Jell-O like her trusty unicorn friend Stargazer advises? Well, first Queen Emily has to find out if what looks like and what smells like sweets are indeed sweets. From there, it is a sweet adventure for her taste buds. But when is enough, enough?

This is a very cute book. I believe this is a series. I read it with my 6-year-old daughter and we laughed out loud. She had me read it two times back-to-back and asked me to read it a third time, but it was past her bedtime. The pictures were great. The book was written by a mother and daughter team and the daughter drew the pictures with her crayons and imagination. A very sweet book (pun intended).

4.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting story and pictures April 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Delightfully illustrated with child-friendly child-designed pictures, Queen Emily's Enchanted Kingdom is an enchanting children's tale with all the fun of the cake and candy store, the magic of the Midas Touch, and an excellent message so easily shared that readers without small children turning the pages will hear the rustle of tiny fingers and infant voices asking, "Please, what happens next?"

A collaboration between the author and her daughter, this picture-book tells the dreamy tale of a suddenly perfect world, and a young queen's learning that perfection might not be quite all it seems. A gentle lesson in health and kindness ensues, told in a perfectly magical style, leaving me eager for grandchildren to share this story with.

Highly recommended, perfect for sharing with small children, wise, fun, and delightful to look at too, this is a great little picture book for parents, grandparents and schools.

Disclosure: I was lucky enough to find a free ecopy of this book.
