This book was created with great love for a woman who was integrally involved in the lives of so many in Boston over the decades. Now, it allows those of us who knew and loved Emily Mehlman to re-create some of the magic that existed at her table and in her home. And for those of you who did not know Emily but who are looking for a magnificent cookbook, this is it. From appetizers like Liptauer and the old-fashioned but ever-delightful layer salad to such classic main courses and side dishes as Emily's sauerbraten, Cincinnati chili, sweet and sour red cabbage and noodle pudding and all the way through to some of the most wonderful desserts ever tasted, Emily's recipes can help you create one amazing meal after another. Bon appetit!

When we talk about comfort food, this is what we mean: delicious dishes prepared with simplicity and love. Food that makes you feel good. And in this case, they were prepared by an extraordinary woman, whose close friends have preserved her legacy of nurturing those around her. If you knew Emily, the recipes will have special resonance. If you didn't, you can begin your own circle of good food shared. I've written more about Emily and "Emily's Table" on my blog, which you can see at my web site.
