Book Description

"Emily's Valentine," an ebook for beginning readers, is a delightful, illustrated, rhyming story about a little girl who, unlike her cousins, is upset she has no money to buy her grandmother a Valentine's Day gift.

So she makes her grandmother a special Valentine's Day gift -- unaware that she ends up giving her grandmother a lot of love, the greatest gift of all!

Elizabeth Purcell has been writing and performing original children's stories for more than 30 years. Her story rhymes delight beginning readers and help them to learn phonics effectively. Your children will read her stories over and over again -- developing their reading skills in the process!

5.0 out of 5 stars Handmade Valentines February 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Little Emily makes a handmade Valentine card for her mommy, daddy and grandpa. She wants to buy her beloved Granny Boo a gift but she does not have enough money in her piggy bank.

Emily makes a beautiful handmade Valentine for her granny and signs it "From Emily with love."

On Valentine's Day, Emily and all her cousins go to visit Granny Boo and give her their gifts. The cousins laugh at Emily's handmade Valentine, but Granny Boo likes the handmade card the best.

Emily gave the gift of love...the greatest gift of all.

This is a short and sweet rhyming story about a little girl and a handmade Valentine card. I have been making handmade cards for several years so this story is near and dear to my heart.

The lesson in this story is that it is the feelings behind the gift that counts. You don't need to spend money to express your love to those near you. A small handmade item means more than an expensive gift purchased with little thought or emotion.

I read this ebook on my Kindle Fire and found the formatting appropriate for young readers. There is a small color illustration and four lines of rhyming text on each screen view.

This is a wonderful story for Valentine's Day or any day. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for Valentine's Day March 19, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love this cute little book. It teaches kids that the best gifts or in this case valentine, are thoughtful and comes from the heart instead of running to the store to buy something. My five year old definitely loves this and makes me read it to her often. It is great that this book can teach children the value of giving. Your kids will love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice moralistic story February 15, 2014
By Alana
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a nice story for valentines day, it's cute and rhyming, but my 2 year olds don't love it. The character in the book doesn't look like them, there' s no dragons or princesses or tigers or pirates, and the message is lost on them. It's a good book to read to the kids, but unlikely to be anyone's favorite.

More About the Author

Elizabeth Purcell is the mother of six children, 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, who give her endless story ideas.

And because she thinks helping children to read early is so important, most of her books are for early readers. They are short, to the point, and mostly in rhyme.

And since learning to read is one of the toughest and most important tasks a young child faces, rhymes are very important for their development. If they are not able to be successful with rhyming, learning to read will be more be difficult.

One key reason rhyme is important is that it is fun. Children are willing to spend a lot of time rhyming and learning more about rhyme. This makes rhyme a great teaching tool and a great motivator for learning.
