Editorial Reviews

Review

.,."unique and impressive anthology (the editors) are themselves highly visible names.... The present 'state of the art' in thinking and research on creativity is indeed well represented..., large concluding chapters by Richards...nicely summarizes the main lines of theory and empirical findings.... For long the psychology of creativity has mainly been a branch of literary psychology.... The present volume has...a much higher concentration of empirical 'hard science' than is typical...main thesis recieves strong empirical support in the solid studies by Andreasen, Jamison, Ludwig, and Richards et. al...a 'must' for instructors and others with a serious scientific interest in this currently burgeoning subject."-Personality and Individual Differences

More About the Author

Mark A. Runco is currently the E. Paul Torrance Professor of Creativity Studies at the University of Georgia, Athens.

Mark earned his PhD in Cognitive Psychology from the Claremont Graduate School. He earned tenure first at the University of Hawaii, Hilo, and then at California State University, Fullerton, and then, in 2008, at the University of Georgia, Athens. At that time he accepted the position of Torrance Professor at UGA. He was Director of the Torrance Creativity Center from 2008-2010. Dr. Runco has been Editor of the Creativity Research Journal since 1989 and is a Past President of Division 10 (Psychology, Art, Creativity, and Aesthetics) of the American Psychological Association. He co-edited two editions of the Encyclopedia of Creativity (1999, 2011). Probably for this reason he has, in the past two years, been quoted by the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek (cover story), US News and World Report, Oprah, Women's Health, and NPR. His textbook, Creativity: Theories, themes, and issues (Academic Press) has been translated into six languages. His new book, The New Science of Creativity, is due out in the Spring (Taylor & Francis). He is President of Creativity Testing Services, LLC (creativitytestingservices.com), which is the publisher of the extensive "rCAB" (Runco Creativity Assessment Battery). The "r" in rCAB is silent. Or perhaps it is trying to escape.

Amazon usually lists over 30 of Dr. Runco's editing books, text books, and similar publications.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eminent Creativity, Everyday Creativity, and Health, November 20, 2003

(REAL NAME)
This book is a classic in its field. Eminent Creativity, Everyday Creativity, and Health contains an enormous amount of information presented in essay format and written by leaders in the mental health field. The editors, Mark Runco and Ruth Richards have done an excellent job in gathering these contributors and then in organizing their essays into groups to facilitate their transmission to the reader, such as "Psychological Health and Creativity" and then "Societal Health and Creativity." The essays not only show a connection between creativity and illness but also between creativity and wellness. Richards has also written an excellent series of introductions to each section to educate and orient the reader. The book will interest the general reader who is creative or would like to be creative but it can also be used as a textbook for students and as a resource book for health professionals.

Tobi Zausner, Ph.D.

Creativity and psychological problems? Despite the popular belief in a link between these, and despite quite a bit of older literature-even going back to writings of Plato and Aristotle-many people have been reluctant to consider there might be some truth behind the belief. Read the first page
