GORGEOUS, LYRICAL, PERFECT - BUT MISSING EMMA'S SONG,
By
This review is from: Emma: Music From The Miramax Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This is the most beautiful film score ever. THe music so perfectly expresses the action of the movie you can visualize each scene. Rachel Portman is a genius! The only negative associated with this ravishing CD is the lack of the song Emma and Frank Churchill sing at the Cole's party. THis is a highlight of the film and should have been included.

Relaxing, but not boring,

I ordered the CD after watching the movie because I liked the song that Emma sang at the piano. It wasn't on the CD and I didn't mind. I LOVE this CD. I especially pop it in if I'm concentrating on a hard project or need to relax a bit or am doing housework. It's really good for all the times! I'm ordering several for gifts. I've already given a few and everyone is overflowing with thanks. Not knowing music myself, I am so thankful for others who give us so much joy with theirs. Louise Mitchell

I love this CD. It's just the right mix of magic and mischief. For those of you looking for the song that Emma sang, it can be found on this CD: Jane's Hand - The Jane Austen Songbooks by Baird and Newman

Wonderful!,

This review is from: Emma: Music From The Miramax Motion Picture (Audio CD)
The music perfectly captures every nuance of the film, and portrays Emma's moods suprisingly well. The only thing lacking is the song that Emma and Frank Churchill sing at the party. Whoever decided not to include that was insane. Some other reviewer found the song, but it just isn't the same not sung by them. All in all, this would be, as on other person called it "a great job portraying a great American novel." Except that Jane Austen was British. ;-)

Butter-Yellow Mischief for your Tea and Scones,
This review is from: Emma: Music From The Miramax Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Although I've qualms with the movie's distributor, I cannot deny that the soundtrack for "Emma" is one of the most charming, delightful, mischievous, bright, skipping, tripping, happy CD's out there. From the windblown main theme, to the plucked strings of Emma's many schemes, to the Christmas carriage ride, to Regency Dance music (sans Sir Beveridge's Maggot - alas!), Ms. Portman has done an excellent job capturing the spirit of Jane Austen's classic novel. An excellent addition to anyone's musical library, a must for lovers of soundtracks - Austen ones in particular, and a great CD for both the office and the arbor.

Love it!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Emma: Music From The Miramax Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This is a great cd, and I can't stop listening to it. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because the cd does not include Gwyneth Paltrow's lovely rendition of "Have You Not Seen My Lady?" Even without this wonderful song, the cd is really worth it.

Classical vibe,

I doubt I could watch "Emma" over and over again, but I never tire of the soundtrack. As one reviewer put it, it's light, airy, and simply sounds pleasant to the ears. It's wonderful to listen to on its own, as it has a classical vibe to it. Some tracks take on a playful tone, which did work very well for a Jane Austen movie. I believe Rachel Portman took home an Oscar for her work, and it's well deserved.

Serenity...,
This review is from: Emma: Music From The Miramax Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This is Serenity....tranquillity...and peacefulness. With a touch of mischief. This is one of the first cds I ever bought. Great music for anyone. It goes perfectly with the movie and its one of Rachel Portman's finest compositions....if you like this, you might like Chocolat...which Portman added a little more "spice" to. I recommend this soundtrack to you.

Emma is a lovely, peaceful soundtrack,

I, personally, adore this soundtrack, and I think that all who enjoy classical music should like it as well. The music is calming, fun, and beautiful, and who could NOT like those things? However,(the catch) in being true to her usual form, Portman uses her two themes(the main theme is lovely and lighthearted, the second theme is bouncy and also lighthearted.) many times each. The main theme is so pretty that I could never really get tired of it, but the "happy" theme can wear on you a bit as many times as it is played. There are some tracks that are unique from the rest, one being track 11, which features some elegant dancing music, and there is also also a little Christmas music on another track that is mimimal enough to not be a bother at times other than C-mas. One dramatic motif, practically the only "dark" music on the cd, is very breif whenever it is played, and it helps to change the sameness. If you enjoyed "The Cider House Rules" soundtrack, you will surely like this one, as they are quite similar in areas, and are both very melodious and beautiful. But, as I said to my bro, there IS a problem when you finish listening to a cd and then end up having something else going through your head! (this happend when I had heard some of C.H.R. and then, when it was paused part way through, I started hummin' Emma!) Sometimes I wonder if Ms. Portman listens to her past compositions for inspiration when she is composing the next soundtrack! Oh well, she means well, and hey, it is all great music! This soundtrack works perfectly to sooth and relax you, and can really be enjoyed at anytime, especialy if repetition does not bother you. Enjoy! : )

Relaxing listening,

This review is from: Emma: Music From The Miramax Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I bought this album to listen to at work and could not be more pleased with it. It has a fun and quirky nature, reminicent of the film it was written for - but does not neglect to remind the listener of simpler days in times past. The music from the dance scenes I found particularly delightful. If you enjoyed the movie, I recommend this album highly!
