I thought this was a very good book.It was sad in different places but also showed how you have to put your trust in God Know matter what your going thru.I enjoyed this book and Just ordered her other book called Julia Hope.Ireally felt sorry for Elizabeth the oldest of the ten kids she had so much on her shoulders but she knew that she had to help with all her brothers and sisters.Again great book.Loved it.

This review is from: Emma's Gift (The Wortham Family Series #2) (Paperback)
This second book and sequal to Julia's Hope is a great book of reality. It very clearly depicts the hard and sad times our country experienced during the depression. It also shows the strength and courage the people of that era had. Making it possible for them to survive during that bleak period in our history by their faith in God and working together with their neighbors. The times were hard and life had many trials. Mrs. Kelly did a wonderful job of painting a very true and clear picture with her easy flowing words.

Up and coming Author!!,

Leisha Kelly has written another winner! A book about the depression (1929), human compassion and help for others. It is one of the best books I have read (and I read many). The characters (children too) each have their own personalities. The lives of Julia and Samuel continue and they continue to survive the depression although it is hard and also help others. Will not get into the story - it's too good. Don't want to spoil a great book for you.

This book is such an inspirational and emotional page turner. Just like Julia's Hope, the first book in the series you can't help but cry, laugh and say AMEN!

This story will touch your heart and minister to you when you encounter the storms that come in life. Thank you, Leisha, for reminding us that when everything else is unstable and life is turned upside down...the Lord is still faithful and heaven is our real home.
Welcome home, Leisha!

The Wortham Family series is one that you will not want to miss! Emma's Gift will also shed light on the Christian walk, and the experience all Christians have of examining their faith. But this series is character-driven and it accomplishes getting you to think about such things in a very subtle way. You can't help but want to see how things are going for these characters that you have come to care so much about.

Continuing the story begun in Julia's Hope, Leisha Kelley returns readers to the Depression era Worthham family. Life takes a turn for the worse when days before Christmas, the Wortham's neighbor, Wilametta Hammond, a mother of ten, dies. Julia and Samuel Wortham are suddenly all that stands between her children and certain death as their own father loses the will to live and care for himself, much less the children.Julia finds her great faith severely tested as she tries to care for these other children in addition to her own family. Resources are already tight, and now they are at the breaking point. The flames of love and faith alone warm this ragged group as winter tightens a cold grip of fear around them. ** Ms Kelley successfully paints a grim picture of the past, making readers feel her characters emotions poignantly. You get a clear reminder that times may be hard now, but they could be worse. ** |
