In this latest installment in the saga of Emmett Love, our hero returns from his incarceration filthy and in leg irons--only to discover Dodge City nearly abandoned and the love of his life, Gentry the ex-whore, missing.

What follows is very fast paced story of one man's grim determination to rescue his soul mate.

Like the other books in the series, it's impossible to put down, a breezy one-day read which is at times harrowing and often surprisingly hilarious.

Locke continues to confound expectations. A must read for Locke lovers.

My daddy always said "If you don't have something good to say then keep your mouth shut" so I guess it stands to reason that if I have something good to say I should say it! so here goes:

If you enjoy reading then you need to get on the bandwagon of John Locke. I gaurantee you you will not be disapointed and will thank me for turning you on to a good author. I read a lot and to find good books (at a very reasonable price of 99 cents) is not always an easy thing to do. John Locke is at the top of my list of favorite authors.

Do yourself a favor and INDULGE............;-)

Emmett and Gentry is another great story from John Locke. It is nonstop fun to read, as Emmett attempts to piece his life back together and meets some interesting characters along the way.
Emmett is one of those characters that you would love to know and have as a friend, but also be just a little afraid of.

In a nutshell, this book is one that I would highly recommend. It is fast paced, funny, adventurous and extremely hard to put down.

Yes, I'm a Creed fan, but I love those Love westerns! The story is fast paced, the dialog is right-on, and the characters have become my friends. Sometimes I wanted to slap some sense into Emmitt's head, while at other times I could wrap him in my arms. He is such a character!

Well as usual couldn't put this one down any more than I could the other Locke books. His humor and ability to tell a story are wonderful. I never can put these down until I finish them. Another winner. Please keep these coming I do so look forward to the emails saying another one is ready. Anxiously awaiting Emmett or Donavan I don't care which they are both winning series in my book. Thanks John for an enjoyable read time.

So happy to be OOU and absolutely *bonkers* about Emmett Love ... just finished The Big Sleep and really needed this funny and smart western to bring me back to the past/present/future. John Locke puts the words down that pick me up and transport me to Reader Heaven. So I'm saying buy the book because you won't regret a single magic ride in this righteous work.

I just want to say that this last Emmett Love story is delightful. I find the bear a real character with his smiles, bear laughs, and how he loves to play tag and swat Emmett on the shoulder so hard that the latter goes head over heels. In this episode we have a couple new horses which seem to arrive out of nowhere and attach themselves to Emmett although he tries to tell everyone that they are not his and he did not steal them. There is a minor problem with these otherwise very well trained and loyal horses. Neither will turn left. They simple are not into making left turns. When Emmett wants to go somewhere on horseback, all is OK until he tries to turn left. No go. The most hilarious scenes are when he gets off one of these horses and has to walk, the horse follows him even though it would not let him ride in that direction. On an important journey we have Emmett walking, followed by a horse walking right behind, then a bear, and then another horse, all in single file. Emmett cannot understand, nor does he appreciate, that he must walk, followed by good horses right behind him. And when he gets angry, throwing and stomping on his hat, the bear just thinks it's hilarious.

Of course the story involves a great more than the bear and strong minded horses, and it's all quite enjoyable.

I have read all of John Lockes books starting with Lethal People (loved the whole Donavan Creed series) then the Dani Ripper book and finally the western series. I really enjoyed Follow the Stones and laughed all the way through Don't Poke the Bear but was so disappointed with this last book. John paints a great picture and , yes I could see the characters and see him walking with his assorted menagerie but seriously? This book was beyond depressing, lacking his trademark good humor instead focusing on what he could endure in the name of love. I kept turning pages waiting for the "good stuff" to kick in but, alas it never did. A dark time personally for the writer? Perhaps? A disappointment for a seasoned, addicted, John Locke fan, absolutely. If this is your first taste of John Locke do yourself a favor and pick up another of his fabulous books.
