This review is from: Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy: The Dynamics of Emotion, Love, and Power (Hardcover)
For those therapists studying Johnson's EFT, this book is an excellent complement to the EFT books published by Dr. Sue Johnson. After reading her books and taking some courses, I felt I still needed more information to understand the emotional dynamics in intimate relationships. I find it helpful to read about the same thing from multiple perspectives, so as to deepen and expand my understanding. This book absolutely serves that purpose and provides additional information and perspective on the topic of EFT.
Greenberg and Goldman do an excellent job in this book of describing the various components underlying individual positions in couples (emotion, affect regulation, motivation (both identity & attachment), interaction, culture, and gender) and discuss working with specific emotions. While I intend to stay true to Dr. Johnson's treatment model, this book has provided me with additional depth to enhance my ability to implement the EFT model.
