5.0 out of 5 stars Wow - I was energized from the first few chapters!!
I am not kidding - this book is remarkable. For a variety of circumstances, both physical and emotional, I have been so tired for the last few years that I had come to accept the fatigue as just the way my life is and that I would just have to move on and deal with it. Thanks to Ms. Kirshenbaum's well-written and easily understandable book, I can toss that...

2.0 out of 5 stars Marginal, Nothing Groundbreaking
This was OK, but contained nothing new or groundbreaking - what I would call "Master of the Obvious" advice. I was really disappointed that the author even had a chapter advising that improving your looks would make you feel better. What was bad about the advice was she used as examples a man who got a face lift and a woman who paid a professional shopper to completely...

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow - I was energized from the first few chapters!!, September 6, 2003

I am not kidding - this book is remarkable. For a variety of circumstances, both physical and emotional, I have been so tired for the last few years that I had come to accept the fatigue as just the way my life is and that I would just have to move on and deal with it. Thanks to Ms. Kirshenbaum's well-written and easily understandable book, I can toss that "acceptance" out the window. The first night I opened this book I read just the first few chapters. The lightbulbs going off in my brain by the end of these pages were like marquees on Broadway! I felt like slapping myself and saying "Duh!" but I was too amazed to do anything but think about ways to apply what I was learning. I am not a person who journals because it is just too hard for me to put things down on paper. When I closed the book the first night, so many things were firing off in my head that I wrote six pages about what I do, why I do it, and what I am going to change - all spurred by this book. I only allowed myself to read two chapters a day so I could absorb all of the information thoroughly. I have given it to two people already and intend to grab it up every time that I find the old fatigue sneaking up on me. Easy to understand, easy to implement and life changing - even if you have a chronic physical illness that leaves you with fatigue, this book can help with the inevitable emotional baggage that goes along. I have to remind myself often of the changes I have made, but what a difference this book has made for me!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW..., January 2, 2003
By A Customer
I've never written a review before, and I'm no expert in psychology, but I was so blown away by this sensational book that I just want to tell anyone out there who's undecided that it's totally worth your time and money. I read the whole thing in 2 days, which I never do, and am going to be buying copies for several of my loved ones who I know will get as much out of it as I have. I've learned so much so quickly from reading this book--how to heal the emotional exhaustion that comes from the ruthless demands I've always put on myself and those that go along with my high-profile job. This book is full of practical, real world insight without any cheesy psycho-babble. Mira Kirshenbaum writes with wisdom and compassion. You get the sense of someone just talking to you over coffee--someone nonjudgmental, with sensitivity and a broad perspective.

If you're worn out by these crazy times we live in and the frenetic pace of our world, do yourself an act of kindness and read this book. To the author: thanks a million, Mira! You've got a wonderful gift and I hope you write many more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous book for immediate help and as an ongoing resource, January 29, 2003
By
M. Glover (Austin, TX USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have never written a review of a book for this or any other site. However, I am doing so now because it's about the best self-help book I've ever read. In fact, it's one of the few I've ever read cover-to-cover. This morning I consulted it again after something particularly upsetting happened, and I got instant help. It really is an ongoing resource, as the author says she intended it to be.

Why did I find it so helpful? Because of chapters like, "The Hell with Other People's Expectations" and "Special Issues" such as "First Aid When Your Emotional Energy Crashes" and "Night Thoughts," which explains why I lie in bed at night worrying and what I can do about it. (I tried her suggestions, and they work.) Her chapter explaining what worry really is (it is not the fear of something bad happening. "It's about not knowing what is going to happen.") really rang true.

I can't thank the author Mira Kirschenbaum enough for writing this. I don't know her from Adam, and I have no financial incentive for recommending this wonderful book, but I have an overwhelming desire to get it into the hands of anyone who is bogged down by life and needs a major lift. The word "empowering" is badly overused, but, in this case at least, it sure fits.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY this BOOK, June 10, 2005
By
My first review ever written and I have read more books than I could ever list here. I had to write this review because in the deepest part of my being I know that I have been changed as a result of reading this book. Ms. Kirshenbaum has a unique gift and she has given it to us in the pages of this book. I am blessed to have been led to this book and in opening it I found detailed examples and the tools needed to change my life. I not only received much needed validation, but I also was set free from fatigue. I will NOT lend this book out and my family and friends agree that this is a must have book! If you need to connect the dot like I did, let Mira's wisdom, years of experience and knowledge guide you to the calmness and assurance that we all deserve and need to live an energetic life. Thanks Mira, I can't wait to start your next book! Love, Linda Scull RN

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful help to regain emotional energy levels, March 17, 2003
In "The Emotional Energy Factor" author Mira Kirshenbaum has produced a seminal work on why we feel tired and what we can do about it. She explains that physical energy is only one factor of our total energy formula, emotional energy is the larger and more important factor.

The book dedicates a chapter to each of several emotional drains and what needs to be done to stop the draining and start the energy flow. The writing is skillfully done with a direct and to the point style. Well researched and easy to understand, this book is sure to bring hope to millions who suffer under emotionally draining circumstances and don't realize why they are so fatigued. "The Emotional Energy Factor" is a highly recommended purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this book! The chapter on worry is a life saver!!!!!!!!!!!!!, January 9, 2006
I rented this book from the library with mild enthusiasm and ended up buying the book and carrying it everywhere with me like a best friend and EMS worker doing spiritual CPR on my heart! Christmas Eve I received a telephone call from a very special friend or so I thought. By the time I hung up the phone from a brief conversation, I felt upset, suckered and my world was turned upside down. Had I been played for months and months and lied to from the get go or what? I don't know and I wasn't given any comfort or reassurance. Why didn't I get this phone call sooner?. I deserved kindness not this. I was stuck in anger and upset. I didn't know what to make of the situation but it was hard not to let it hurt me and catapult me into a draining black hole of upset. I picked up Mira's book again, this time like a life preserver and focused on her invaluable tips that gave me the "emotional shock absorbers" to cope. Every time my mind wanted to replay the upset over and over like a Linda Rondstat song, I learned, "Stop" -- it is like watching the same soap opera episode over and over again. Stop your self. Mira's book taught me to focus on what I can control rather than what I cannot. She taught me not to take life too seriously. That is a tough one for me. Focus myself on the present and the positives in my life. Even with the person that hurt me -- I could remember positives from the past but The Emotional Energy Factor taught me to focus my energy forward not in the past. The chapter on "worry" is my favorite. Looking back on your life, did you ever wish you worried more? No! The book started out slow for me but a shocking "speed bump" in the road of my life, that could have knocked me over and out, did not, thanks to Mira Kirshenbaum's insights aka tools for coping and energizing your life. I carried this book with me like a best friend but this book was better than a best friend; this book turned out to be a life saver and helped me embrace the New Year with happiness and optimism. A treasured friend that passed away had told me to "hold unto my heart". Mira Kishenbaum's book came to me when I most need a best friend I did not have. She helped me to hold on to my heart and my smile. By letting go of what isn't working for you and refocusing you can regain high-energy and embrace happiness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Attitude Is Everything, February 15, 2005
We all know people who drag around, whine and complain and can't take the initiative to make things happen in their lives. A copy of this book might be a life saver for them.
It's a good one for even high-energy people to have on hand. Every now and then things get you down, but dipping into this book gives ideas to jump start your enthusiasm again.
When you read a section, you say "of course," but it is good to be reminded of these. Some concepts may be new to you.
Examples of these "secrets" are:
*negative people bring you down
*unfinished business is an energy drain
*embrace the present
*never envy anyone
Mostly the book benefits you by giving you perspective. We all have a lot going on in our lives, but keeping it in perspective makes it much easier to deal with. Attitude is everything!
