Book Description

May 20, 1999
This is a self-help book that teaches the reader a method to eliminate or reduce emotional or physical pains that are associated with psychological, emotional or physical distress. The book instructs the reader to tap on a sequence of acupressure points in a well defined method. This method addresses many psychological problems, addictions and distress from chronic pain or illness. Examples of how to address various problems are provided. Also, it includes a detailed troubleshooting section that helps the reader circumvent barriers to reducing the distress associated with difficult issues. Instructions are given that will, in some cases, teach the innerself to automatically use this method to heal the source of active negative beliefs, memories, and experiences just in the course of life.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

This is how I came to write Emotional Freedom. In 1997, I learned Gary Craig and Adrienne Fowlie's treatment method, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). When I used EFT, I found it easy to use. It was very effective treating many emotional issues including fear, anxiety and the effects of trauma. It also worked to reduce or eliminate some chronic symptoms and pain. The beauty of this method is that it only involves tapping on acupressure points. There is no diagnosis or muscle testing to do. It is very simple and safe to use. I could see that this method would be easy to teach as a self-help technique. I wanted to write a book that it would be useful for the general public of all ages. Mr. Craig gave me permission to write a book teaching the content of his video training course. The book, Emotional Freedom, is written as a self-help book in plain English without technical words. I included many pictures and reorganized and presented the material simply in different ways. I also included other helpful material in the appendix. Some of this will help the reader to completely identify all aspects of an issue. The treatment, even when some issue is hard to heal, simply involves following directions until the issue is healed. Though the book is brief and written for the public, the content is detailed enough to serve as manual to help mental health counselors learn the technique. It is the kind of book, small in size, which is easy to share with friends wanting to heal their emotional issues. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Back Cover

Dr. Garry Flint is an experienced clinician who has integrated a broad spectrum of processes from the emerging discipline of energy medicine.

Emotional Freedom Is an important bridge into a new paradigm that can treat traumatic stress and a host of psychological problems and chronic illnesses in a relatively brief time. More importantly, these easy-to-learn techniques are non-invasive and can be taught to empower patients so they can become more responsible for their health and wellness. A must read for the clinician and lay person interested in the power therapies of the new millennium

and The Power of Visualization

Flint's book clearly presents a treatment approach ("change technique") that has great promise. We have been using many elements of this approach since 1994. It is simple, safe, and easy, and the client can sense near immediate relief of at least some symptoms. Emotional Freedom is detailed enough to teach therapists and simple and safe enough for the average person.

Dr. Garry Flint has written a clear description of the Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). This book can be valuable as a self-help tool or an adjunct in therapy. The illustrations help explain EFT in simple terms and offer many examples. Emotional Freedom encourages experimentation and persistence as you face specific aspects of troublesome issues. Therapists and others seeking to learn The Method will find this through book a boon for their work or their recovery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid informational book, fascinating, August 13, 2002
Don't let the small size of this book fool you. It gives a detailed description of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and how to use them to gain control over emotional problems such as fear, anxiety and addiction (as well as most others). That's a pretty tall order for any book to try to fill and especially so when so many different fields of psychology and self-help can't seem to agree on how to deal with emotional problems. It seems that a therapy that works for one person does not work for another person. So, how does this book try to fill the order of a simple system that anyone can learn and apply to help with any emotional problem? It does it by pointing out that emotional problems create certain definite changes in the body that can be treated with accupressure. So, the author takes you on a tour of accupressure points and techniques that change your body's reaction to the emotional stimulus and in doing so take the power away from uncontrolled emotional reaction.

The EFT techniques allow the user to treat themselves with a system that can be done quickly and privately at any time and in pretty much any situation. Working from the smaller problems, in order to gain experience and confidence, to the larger ones the techniques are detailed and include a troubleshooting section to help determine what to do when things are not progressing the way they should.

Well written, organized, easy to understand and easy to implement, it is a fascinating read. Recommended for those wrestling with gaining control over emotional issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Assistance with Weight Loss, October 7, 2000
By
Stephanie Macleod (Vernon, British Columbia, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Emotional Freedom (Paperback)
When I was pregnant with my son in 1981, I gained 105 pounds in the last trimester. The birth was horrendous and I had a number of traumas from which to heal.

I didn't bother much about weight loss over the years, because most of the diets I knew about involved being hungry, or eating in a way that I didn't like. I was also too busy to bother. None of this stopped me from feeling the usual loss of self-esteem and self-hatred that most overweight people feel in our culture.

In 1991, I had seen a psychologist who helped to heal the birth traumas to the point where I was able to start exercising regulary and feeling better about myself, but I still did not tackle the extra weight through diet.

When I got a copy of "Emotional Freedom" in 1999, I decided that my weight might be an issue that the technique would help with since I knew it did not represent a serious trauma, and Dr. Flint warns about starting with serious issues in the book.

As per his instructions, I sorted through the emotions attached to my weight and decided to see what would happen if I worked on my anger, which I felt might be blocking me from action. I tapped on all the areas indicated, in the order indicated, and went to sleep.

The next day when I woke up, I remembered a diet which I had used years ago as a teenager to lose weight which I had gained on birth control piils. I decided to give that diet a whirl and lost 40 pounds in 5 months.

I did not need to use Dr. Flint's methods to deal with anything else in this area, but was amazed at how easy it was, after not thinking about diets or weight loss for years, to move on with my life and start losing weight. My feelings about myself became far more accepting and less negative.

I have since had occasion to use the techniques to deal with anxiety and grief and find them very helpful. Sometimes it seems to work directly on my feelings, and at other times it seems to remind me of solutions which have worked in the past.

I am very happy to have this book, and very grateful to Dr. Flint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Concise, Effective and "To the Point"!, March 16, 2000
By
This review is from: Emotional Freedom (Paperback)
I enjoyed the book, Emotional Freedom. I found it to be a very informative, practical and concise work on EFT. I might add that I purchased 2 or 3 other very good books on the same topic and this one is the one that I chose to keep and utilize. It is a very handy resource!
