Grammy Award winning singer, songwriter, and producer Richard Marx will release his first new solo recording in nearly three years, Emotional Remains. The 11-track recording, due out September 22nd, exclusively at Amazon.com, on both CD and MP3 download, also includes two bonus tracks, re-recorded versions of “Never Take Me Dancing,” from Flesh and Bone (1997) and “Should’ve Known Better,” from Richard Marx (1987).
“The process of writing, recording and putting music out there through the web not only gives an artist the ability to create the type of CD that they want to create, but it also gives fans an unfiltered access to the music,” said Marx. “And Amazon.com makes that possible.”
Emotional Remains, Marx’s first offering since 2004’s My Own Best Enemy, is a bit of a departure for Marx, with a brand of rock that some may not think is synonomous with the artist, writer, and producer that has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide.
Whether it’s “Better or Worse,” an undeniably catchy and inspirational rock ballad, or the faster-paced “From the Inside, ” which features a darkly confessional lyric backed by a wall of guitars, the tracks are poised to join Richard’s existing arsenal of hits.
The forthcoming album also contains some of the chart topper’s most ambitious and personal works to date. The songs possess the heartfelt vocals found in all of Marx’s signature songs, but with a rock edge. From “Through My Veins,” a poignant tribute to Richard’s father to “When November Falls,” a loving father/son ballad that Richard dedicated to his sons. Emotional Remains features songs co-written by Matt Scannell of Vertical Horizon, Fee Waybill of The Tubes, and singer/songwriter Graham Colton.
Marx adds, “This recording is certainly evidence of the music that I've been listening to over the last few years, and vocally it took me to a different place than where I've been.”
This product is manufactured on demand using CD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.

Anyone who has followed Richard Marx's musical career has seen a man that has always been able to write from the heart and express himself creatively through his lyrics. I appreciate that about his work. His latest album does not disappoint his fans. I admit that I had to listen to the music a few times before I appreciated the difference in how his music has matured and grown since the earlier music he put out. But I ended up not disappointed at all once I got used to his current style. The song, "For Better or Worse" is so powerful to those who are in emotional pain and have to keep on keeping on in a relationship that is worth fighting for despite the agony. I love how emotional Richard Marx sounds on songs like - "Done to Me" that really express perfectly his frustration and anger of caring deeply for someone that broke his heart to death and how hard it is to move on. It's classic love angst that hits home with so many fans. He does not fail to move and touch with the song, "Through my Veins", which I strongly assume refers to his Dad's death still staying with him and how much he sees his father in himself now, therefore never really losing him at all. Very deep stuff. That song's tone is so fitting for the lyrics and the melody leaves you haunted by its end in such a beautiful mind possessive way. I am so thankful that Mr. Marx keeps cranking out the good meaningful type of music that is desperately needed in such a demoralizing world of messed up empty values in music. He promotes a healthy emotional outpouring that means so much to many of us who can relate to desperately wanting relief in a desensitized secular world.

Not all that new,

This album and another one,"Sundown", have been available from Marx's official site both as digital download and physical CDs for some time. I bought the physical CDs and they came in a jewel box with a proper booklet.
Of the two albums, "Sundown" is closer to the Richard Marx that we're used to. It includes two wonderful duets. "Suddenly" with Toni Braxton and "And I Lover Her" (originally by The Beatles) with Vince Gill. I don't know whether "Sundown" will be released as well. It should be.

The album overall is well done. I am sure "Through My Veins" will be a hit."When November Falls" and "Over My Head" are also pretty good. The album seems to be very different then "Right Here Waiting" or "Hold On To The Nights". Marx has a true talent for writing, producing, and singing. We can't forget he is the one who wrote N'Sync's hit "This I Promise You". The only thing I didn't like about the album was "Dancing" which seems to have a country them to it. Overall, though I was impressed with the album.
