Emotionally Intelligent Leadership is a groundbreaking book that combines the concepts of emotional intelligence and leadership in one model—emotionally intelligent leadership (EIL). This important resource offers students a practical guide for developing their EIL capacities and emphasizes that leadership is a learnable skill that is based on developing healthy and effective relationships. The book explores the concept of leadership as a process among people working together productively in the group rather than simply a top-down phenomenon. Emotionally Intelligent Leadership offers a clear and engaging perspective on leadership as well as a practical guide for applying leadership skills. The book offers tools for reflection on the concepts of leadership. It also provides students with exercises to learn more about themselves, work more productively with others, improve relationships, and be more effective in demonstrating their leadership the authorsMarcy Levy Shankman is a professional consultant and founder of MLS Consulting, through which she facilitates leadership development with institutions of higher education, fraternities and sororities, and nonprofit organizations. 4.0 out of 5 stars Student Reviews October 17, 2008
Format:Paperback
Below are two student reviews for this great book! They were unable to post but I wanted to share anyways....

Courtney S. (Columbia, SC):
Emotionally Intelligent Leadership is a useful tool in developing leadership skills in seemingly any condition. It was detailed enough to be easily applied in situations, but did not go into a painfully long explanation which kept it an easy read. The book offered many alternate ways of looking at and dealing with situations that I had not previously considered. I would recommend it to any college student. Even if you're not in a leadership position currently, EIL can help you to improve skills and assist you in attaining goals.

Via N. (Columbia, SC)
This is a great book for students, especially those that are in college. It points out skills that you need to become a good and successful leader. There are inserted opinions from others such as students or members of organizations that give their insight on specific skills. It is a very easy read and there are also questions at the end of every chapter that helps you reflect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the Classroom and Beyond! September 27, 2008
Format:Paperback
Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: A Guide for College Students is the perfect complement for the leadership classroom and beyond. In empowering students to explore and develop their own leadership potential, this book serves as an essential guide. Theories and principles of EIL are advanced in a relatable, user-friendly manner. Students "see" themselves in the incorporated student voices which serve as tangible examples of experiential learning and self-authorship. The reflection questions guide readers through a challenging, fruitful growth exercise for which the reward is a better understanding of self, others, and the world around us. Kudos to Shankman and Allen - theirs is a work critical to the growth of the next generation of leaders ready to function in our global world. - Remy Shaffer Gomes, University of Maryland
