Student Reviews,

This review is from: Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: A Guide for College Students (Paperback)
Below are two student reviews for this great book! They were unable to post but I wanted to share anyways....
Courtney S. (Columbia, SC): Emotionally Intelligent Leadership is a useful tool in developing leadership skills in seemingly any condition. It was detailed enough to be easily applied in situations, but did not go into a painfully long explanation which kept it an easy read. The book offered many alternate ways of looking at and dealing with situations that I had not previously considered. I would recommend it to any college student. Even if you're not in a leadership position currently, EIL can help you to improve skills and assist you in attaining goals. Via N. (Columbia, SC) This is a great book for students, especially those that are in college. It points out skills that you need to become a good and successful leader. There are inserted opinions from others such as students or members of organizations that give their insight on specific skills. It is a very easy read and there are also questions at the end of every chapter that helps you reflect.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: A Guide for College Students (Paperback)
I had to buy this book for a class... Its agony to read and filled solely with common sense information. Also, super expensive for a paperback with gigantic font and monster margins. Its like paying for used paper...

Perfect for the Classroom and Beyond!,

This review is from: Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: A Guide for College Students (Paperback)
Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: A Guide for College Students is the perfect complement for the leadership classroom and beyond. In empowering students to explore and develop their own leadership potential, this book serves as an essential guide. Theories and principles of EIL are advanced in a relatable, user-friendly manner. Students "see" themselves in the incorporated student voices which serve as tangible examples of experiential learning and self-authorship. The reflection questions guide readers through a challenging, fruitful growth exercise for which the reward is a better understanding of self, others, and the world around us. Kudos to Shankman and Allen - theirs is a work critical to the growth of the next generation of leaders ready to function in our global world. - Remy Shaffer Gomes, University of Maryland

Connecting to Generation Next,
This review is from: Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: A Guide for College Students (Paperback)
Facebook, MySpace, texting, IM and other social utilities are shaping the way the world integrates and communicates. Further, Millennials, like other generations, are shaped by the events, leaders, developments and trends of their time. Now, more than ever a student resource is needed to help craft the future leadership pipeline. Meeting this digital revolution head on with an adaptable tool kit is Emotionally Intelligent Leadership (EIL). It is an engaging read that combines theory and practice. A great handbook that helps "generation next" unlock their leadership potential. A must read for Student Affairs professionals and student leaders alike - David Rae, Global Talent Acquisition, Nike Inc.

Outstanding and relevant book for college students and beyond,

This review is from: Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: A Guide for College Students (Paperback)
This is a great book that is very student-friendly and very relevant to student leaders and leadership beyond the college environment. Leadership and Emotional Intelligence are such important and related concepts- so it's great to have a book that integrates the two. It provides relevant conceptual and theoretical ideas and couples this with relevant examples and a practical focus. I teach Leadership Studies courses and learned a lot myself reading this, and I plan to use this book in a class I'm teaching next fall.

Worth a Look for Any College Student,

This review is from: Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: A Guide for College Students (Paperback)
Even as an engaged college student, I never understood the relevance of leadership theory and development until I picked up Allen and Shankman's Emotionally Intelligent Leadership (EIL). The easily recognizable examples and down-to-earth writing sets this book apart from and above its peers. Having seen numerous other books geared toward the active college student, I can say this is a more than welcome edition. EIL does NOT waste your time - its 124 pages efficiently and effectively convey to the reader useful ideas for college leadership issues as well as ones that will carry over into their careers.

A Book for Parents and Teachers,
By Steve R. "Bookie Monster" (Shaker Heights, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: A Guide for College Students (Paperback)
Most books on leadership are geared towards CEO's and Wall Street and therefore are irrelevant to twenty something students. This book is simple, direct and well targeted to my students (professional school and graduate students). The authors use emotional intelligence principles to build a compelling argument that any school can turn out competent grads but a school that follows the plan of this book has the chance to turn out truly masterful and happy students.

EIL,
This review is from: Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: A Guide for College Students (Paperback)
This book offers great tools that can assist someone in improving as a person, teammate and leader. Although it is very "sugarcoated" and cliche at times, it gets its point across.
