Emotionally Intelligent Living,
By Rose M Borutski (Burnaby, BC Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Emotionally Intelligent Living (Paperback)
If when you hear the words emotional intelligence (EI), and you associate them with Daniel Goleman and his books, this book will introduce you to the players who made it possible for Daniel Goleman to commercialize and popularize the EI concept. Geetu Orme presents a comprehensive point by point SWOT Analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) aimed at the lay person, beginning practitioner, and business or human resource manager on the knowledge generated thus far in field of Emotional Intelligence - on for example, the different self-report and ability-based instruments. Quite simply it is Emotional Intelligence 101. Through examples and exercises, you experience in an accessible and practical way what emotional intelligence is all about. This means you will make better, more informed decisions about accessing and utilizing emotional intelligence in personal and business situations, such as hiring an EI consultant. In the feelings words list, you will learn just how many of our words are about feelings, and that we don't often make the connection to a specific feeling. In the resource and recommended organizations section, you will find innumerable choices offered by practitioners of EI. In the personalized stories and scripts throughout, you will see what EI looks like. In succinct paragraphs, in a variety of situations - career, family, friendships, teamwork - Geetu illustrates why emotional intelligence matters. She does this in a straight-foward and simple presentation that is not simplistic, and instead shows the complexity of EI. Literally, paragraph by paragraph, she puts to rest the myth that emotion and reason, that emotional and rational are polarized concepts or dichotomies.
