Stepping Stones to Greater Resilience delivers. There are many texts which approach the idea of resilience but most only grasp the concept and dance around the practice. Most people who pick up a self help book understand the concept of an idea completely. What we all really want is a guide to tell us what we have to do to improve our lives.

Stepping Stones actually does this.

Think of Stepping Stones as a walkthrough, or a checklist of things we all need to do to bolster ourselves and protect ourselves with our own resilience. This is a guide explaining exactly what sort of things can be done in our lives now, that will improve our ability to deal with difficult situations and roadblocks that fall in our path.

This guide does not dance around resilience and overload your mind with medical mumbo jumbo. This is a practical guide that is perfectly easy to pick up and read in a few hours. You can stop along the way and reflect on the chapters and begin to implement the steps in your own life. Even if you're already pretty resilient, reading this book can give you new ideas and insight into the process of being able to rise from any adversity.

This book teaches us that adverse situations are not to be feared, but accepted as challenges to overcome. We do not have to give up or run away, we can face any situation and conquer it if we have the proper skills. Stepping Stones cites exactly what these skills are and how to build them.

Unlike many self help books, this one acknowledges the fact that the family does not have to be part of your personal support network, and also acknowledges the fact that online communities can be a part of this fortified web as well.

I found this book to be incredibly useful. It's readable for a start, and where so many self-help style books can get repetitive, this one stays on track. It gives advice in short, quick pieces that you can digest, work through and use if they suit you. The part about unreasonable optimism struck me as one of the wisest things I have ever read: "Unrealistic optimism can entice a person into mentally enjoying the desired outcome in the present, leaving them with little motivation to take the action required toward achieving the desired future."

Stepping Stones to Greater Resilience is well written, the language is clear, simple and never falls into the trap of being sanctimonious. There is the clear feeling that the author really believes in and understands the ideas she is sharing. There are plenty of anecdotes which break up the content and give the reader a context for the information they have been learning. It's a great book - not just for people in dire need of recovery, but for people just wanted to gain a greater sense of personal resilience and strength.

I liked the fact that this book helps you develop skills to manage life's adversities, be able to manage them, and in the process, develop a better quality of life. I have seen a lot of people that has poor resiliency skills and as a result, they live very stressful lives reflected most of the times in their health and with the way they interact with people. I highly recommend getting this book if you want to see yourself move forward to the next level.

Reminders that are interesting and concise. Particularly liked reading the inspirational stories of those that have survived and triumphed incomprehensible challenges.

Stepping Stones to Greater Resilience by Marguita Herald is described as a guide to cultivating the skills that empower you to avoid getting sidetracked by life's inevitable challenges and thrive as a result of the experience.

This description more than adequately describes Herald's self help book. I am confident that this book will help anyone going through a tough time if they are open to learning skills on how to be resilient, how to strengthen their confidence in their abilities and boost coping skills.

Personally I wish I had this book a few years ago when my life was in chaos and I did not know how to face some of the issues I was facing in a positive matter. While I read it after the fact, I am pleased to see that I had somehow developed these skills along the way. This manual would have definitely have sped up the process I went through of having to learn this on my own through trial and error.

By following this "manual to success" readers will develop the necessary skills needed to become strong in the face of adversity instead of becoming a victim to the nasty details of life.

No one can live a full or long life without having to face adversity and sadness at times. It's how you deal with such terrible situations that makes a difference. This book is filled with both inspiration and "how-to" practical suggestions on what to do to make it through those times when you're rather crawl into a closet and not come out again. Beautifully written, inspirational stories are presented to show the resilience people can have--a resilience most don't even realize they have until they are forced to face life's challenges. To me, this is a great book to read when you're feeling good...and then be sure to keep it close at hand to help you find your inner strength to handle those times when life turns sour.
