Groovy!,

This review is from: The Emperor's New Groove (2000 Film) (Audio CD)
This album truly displays Sting's strengths, and I appreciate the fact that all the songs from the former version of the movie "Kingdom of the Sun" are included. Kingdom of the Sun was the first version of the movie which Sting wrote five songs to. Disney revamped the entire film, scratching the five songs, and making it into a buddy comedy. Its good to see that Disney is proud of Sting's work to include songs not in the final version of the film..

Bravo, Disney!,
By Jess (York, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Emperor's New Groove (2000 Film) (Blisterpack) (Audio CD)
Disney has always been tricky when it comes to soundtracks: first the characters sing (like in Little Mermaid, Aladin, etc) or their new approach being that someone else sings for the characters (like Phil Collins and Tarzan). The Emperor's New Groove sort-of combines these two elements to form a very well put-together album. I went into this album thinking that Sting would be pulling a Phil Collins and singing all the songs in the movie. This was not the case, however. Sting is a wonderful singer, but an even better songwriter; Disney definitely must have seen this because he writes and produces every single song on this album. What would any "groove" be like without the illustrius Tom Jones? It's been a LONG time since he's done anything new, and he definitely gives a very groovy sense to the opening and reprise songs of "Perfect World". Eartha Kitt purrs and growls her way through her character's song "Snuff Out the Light", and Sting, as he always does, manages to write and sing the theme song "My Funny Friend and Me" which definitely promotes the concept of how friendship can change a view on life. Rascal Flatts are featured in "Walk the Lama Lama", a cute yet quarky litttle song about lamas, and Sting appears again with Shawn Colvin singing the duet "One Day She'll Love Me". Last but definitely not least is the tremendously brilliant score written and produced by John Debney, which provides somewhat of a sneak-peak as to what the movie is about. Although it may not be the best soundtrack Disney's ever done, it should definitely be considered one of the best. From the magnificent and moving score by John Debney, to Sting's extraordinary songwriting and singing abilities, each gives a tremendous amount of energy and talent to the album itself. The Emperor's New Groove is not only a wonderful soundtrack; it gives a significant amount of promise to the film and will, undoutably, bring a well-deserved boost to the movie through it's run at the theatre.

I have to be honest, I wasn't expecting anything good aboutEmperor's New Groove. Then I got the Cd and realized that Sting wrotegreat songs for the film. I like the sound of all the songs. There ismore, I just got the spanish version of the soundtrack and it is greattoo, the Walk the llama llama song is even better in this CD, it evenhas some extra lyrics that the english version doesn'tinclude. .... The title in spanish is even better "Las Locurasdel Emperador" which means something like "The Emperor'sFrolics"
