One of the best...,
By
This review is from: Empire - England (Magazine)
This is simply one of the best movie magazines on the market. You can always be sure to be updated on the latest movies and dvd releases, and it's nice that the crew of Empire doesn't take themselves too seriously; the articles are well written but keeps the humour intact as well, where other movie magazines seem to be too keen on showing how intellectual they are. Unfortunately it's rather expensive here in Denmark, but it's worth the price.

Absolutely Fabulous Magazine!,
By Reading Is Fun (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Empire - England (Magazine)
Empire magazine is one of the most beautifully produced entertainment magazines on the market. Yes, the yearly subscripton fee is on the expensive side but it is well worth the price. It is an oversized glossy British magazine filled with informative articles on both American and British films. The articles feature future films as well. The magazine is also filled with the most gorgeous photos...of the stars themselves and with many scenes from their latest films. I, especially, love their fabulous covers! This is a magazine that you will not be disappointed with!

TOP MOVIE MAGAZINE - HANDS DOWN,
By OverTheMoon (overthemoonreview@hotmail.com) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Empire - England (Magazine)
No question. If you followed ALL movie magazines, even the sci-fi and fantasy spin-offs, quick VHS magazines (remember those!) then you should also remember about the time BATMAN premiered (what great movie hype!) Empire Magazine ran its first issue and then the great BATMAN #2 issue and we have not stopped collecting since, nearing issue 200 now as I write this, it has been a good one so far and I am sure will keep up the same pace for all new to the greatest `non-digital' monthly pages on the planet, I urge young and old alike to start collecting and reading now.Empire has the best letter editor quick reply page, best movie news section that is fairly reliable, some interesting actor introductions, then the SOLID MOVIE REVIEW SECTION that is pretty much the most effective appraised segment in any magazine on any planet and to think that it is about films makes it all the more better. Film personality, editorial and staff movie trivia segments, inside scoops, Questions and Answers about how much is a bottle of milk, Empire helped get us closer to these people who made us so happy at the silver screen and to that I have Empire to thank. The spine quotes at the side that can win us a T-shirt, the new DVD section (I lived for the old VHS one) your designers really knew what made us young impressionably men do in the bathroom with Michelle Pfeiffer in the mid-section, thanks for that also and I end this review by saying that if there was any magazine in the world that I would like to write for, I would give my left one for these people. This is truly amazing film work... and yeah, it does leave Premiere magazine to go pound on sand. Try it.

The best movie magazine I have ever come across,
By A Customer
This review is from: Empire - England (Magazine)
Empire is by far the best movie magazine in publication today. Since the magazine is British, it provides information on movies that we in America have not yet heard of. This magazine has the best and most relevant reviews, and presents them in an interesting way.

The greatest movie mag on the planet!,
By
This review is from: Empire - England (Magazine)
I am a loyal, long time fan of EMPIRE magazine and have collected almost every issue from No.1. Being a British mag, it differentiates itself from others like Premiere and Entertainment Weekly by it's frank dissection of all movies, and provides a wide range of opinion and discussion. I will always read EMPIRE, and If you like movies, you should too.

Best Movie Mag Around,
This review is from: Empire - England (Magazine)
If you are a movie fan looking for a read this is the magazine. Empire's strength is in treading a line between in-depth-analysis and shallow commercial puffs. In other words, it is not too serious yet again critical and independent. Ok, the p.o.v. is from UK so you might want to take that into account. Otherwise it is best magazine for movie aficionados I have read.

I have recently discovered this brit movie mag and its fantastic! A hot item on a regular basis on auction sites for its outstanding covers and in depth articles! The magazine has glossy crisp pages and is oversized. The Lord of the Rings collectors covers were especially cool!

Empire is the Best in Film Magazines,
By
This review is from: Empire - England (Magazine)
Empire is the absolute best in film magazine publications. A monthly magazine, Empire is full of great content and thoughtful reviews. And we're not talking just a few reviews. Last month's issue had 30 reviews. Many of the reviews are long and detailed, while others are shorter. Empire reviews films on a 5-star scale rather than a 4-star scale. They also run reviews of DVD and Blu-Ray releases, and comment on the disc's extra features. The only thing to keep in mind is that theatrical and home video release dates in the UK are often different from that of the USA.Besides reviews, Empire has many exclusive first looks at upcoming projects. Each issue has at least several great set photos and interviews with filmmakers about their films in production. Featured interviews with actors, directors, and other Hollywood players are generally very long and very insightful. Unlike other magazines, Empire is willing to dedicate a dozen pages to a single topic or individual. The magazine generally has around 200 pages (with a limited number of ads), and is larger and thicker than most of the competition. You really feel that you are getting good value for your money. The covers are great, and every once in a while they have collectible covers that are only available to subscribers. I cannot say enough great things about this magazine. As mentioned in other reviews, it may be less expensive to buy this magazine on a monthly basis from a retail store such as Borders for approx $10 an issue.

Great movie-dvd magazine--but available cheaper!,
By carol irvin "carol irvin" (United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Empire - England (Magazine)
I buy this magazine on the newsstand at Borders or Barnes & Noble for less than $10. That is cheaper than the over thirteen dollars an issue listed here for a subscription. Is this magazine worth it? Yes. Not only are there excellent articles but you will also get great reviews of both dvds and movies so that you can plan ahead for what you want to view at home. Ditto as for movie soundtracks and books about film. There is also a puzzle. The pictures are fabulous and probably account for part of the high price. The rest of the high price is because this is a UK magazine. Because this is a UK magazine, the releases of films and dvds are based on their release in the UK. This is why I use the magazine more to plan for home viewing than for seeing it upon first theatrical release in the USA. Since I watch most of my tv and movies online though, release date also means less to me than to most.

I like the magazine however I currently am purchasing it off the rack. I have't received my first issue at home because it takes 3 to 4 months for the first issue to be delivered.
