A wonderfully helpful stranger recommended this to me in a bookstore, and when I flipped through it and liked what I saw, I decided to purchase it.

The story is excellent -- I was very drawn to the "What if...?" aspect that permeates it. What if Luke had died from his injuries on Hoth? Who would then face Vader? What if Vader showed up at Cloud City a little bit later than he did in the film?

Instead of Luke training as a Jedi, we see Leia taking that role after Luke's death. And instead of Han being frozen in carbonite, a certain bounty hunter has to endure that -- and subsequently ends up as an interesting piece of furniture for Lando Calrissian's office.

This is my first experience with Star Wars comics, but it will definitely not be the last.

I don't want to give too much away here, but it's very good and the artwork is very detailed. I was hoping for a different twist in the plot but this book has a good twist. The twist I was hoping for was in Cloud City, Luke missing a hand, hanging over the central shaft and Vader says, "Join me and we will rule the galaxy together as father and son." I was waiting for Luke to say, "OK" see the destruction of the Falcon and Cloud City going up in flames. That would be a good start. The only problem I have with these books is the Rebels still win. I want the Empire to win once and a while.

The Empire Strikes Back is my first exposure to the Infinities line, and I'd like to see more. The subtle changes that can pave the way for major revisions to the story are fascinating to explore -- and the Dark Horse team has done a deft job with this one. Give us more!

In the second chapter of the Infinities series, one subtle change is made to the original story of Star Wars Episode V and the storyline is thrown into chaos and a new tale unfolds. Luke Skywalker is on the ice planet Hoth doing a routine sweep of the area when he's attacked by a Wampa and, before his friend Han Solo can save him, he dies in the cold tundra. However, before his death, he reveals to Han that he must head to Dagobah to be trained by Yoda to be a Jedi. Meanwhile, Darth Vader still hunts to find his son Luke not knowing he has passed and Han, Leia, and Chewie head to Cloud City to meet with Han's friend Lando to repair the Millennium Falcon before heading to Dagobah. However, a bounty hunter named Boba Fett is hot on their trail and, after thwarting one of the best bounty hunters in the galaxy, they meet Yoda and learn that Leia is the chosen one Luke spoke of and not Han. Also, Leia is his sister! Han leaves Leia to train while trying to get the bounty off his head and Vader tracks the group straight to Dagobah after some time and confronts the elderly Jedi Yoda but not before Yoda forces Vader to confront his past and, finally, his own daughter in lightsaber combat. However, it's up to Leia and her friends to save the galaxy from the evil Darth Vader!

A fantastic story is told through this alternate timeline and this one is even better than the first Infinities series! The art is very well done and the writing is great! This is definitely a good read if you're into Star Wars at all and it's cheap too!

I love the penciling in this comic since I'm a big fan of the artist's work. The idea that Leia, as the more mature and levelheaded of the twins, would achieve much more and walk a steadier path to becoming a jedi is quite plausible. Of all the "Infinities" books, I rank the "Empire" as my favorite and would recommend it as a good read to all the fans of the original trilogy. However, I would sincerely discourage all who consider purchasing the other two books as they do not satisfy the average reader on ANY level.

Continuing with the great idea presented in it's predecessor (Infinities: A new hope, or IANH), Dark horse comics brings us the classic story of the empire strikes back...but with a twist that stirs things up and ultimitly weaves a new, enticing story.

As with the previous installment in the "Infinities" series, one event in Star wars history is changed. In this saga, that one event is...Luke dies on Hoth, turned into an ice cube (not literally) just as Han finds him. With his dying words, Luke tells Han that he has to go to Dagobah and find Yoda. With Luke buried, Han, Leia, the droids and Chewie set off to find Yoda so that Han can begin his Jedi training.

With this great start, the story picks up speed and never stops. The story this time around is just as good as the one presented in IANH. It has twists, turns, comedy, and some moments that really just make your jaw drop. Case in point, Vader's final sequence. I won't give it away here, but this scene with vader and one of his former allies is truly provocative and well done. I fell that it could genuinly work as a sequence in one of the films. Kudos to the people who thought it up.

As with IANH, the artwork here is very good and lends itself well to the story. With the great visuals and a very entertaining story, this comic is easily recommened for all star wars fans, casual and devoted alike.

This tale of What If? in the Star Wars universe is pretty cliched and the art is so basic and cartoony that the overall story is really setback. The characters are still recognizable but the basic looking art with bland backgrounds make it a little hard to even get into the ridiculously cliched story. Innovation was nowhere to be found here. Just run of the mill.

This comic was fun to read because it was different from the movies (Luke Dies, Leia become Jedi from Yoda, ...). However some of the parts were kind of confusing. But if you like this series you should get it. If you have never heard of this series I wouldn't buy it. :)
