It's not the best movie I've ever seen, but it is far from the worst.

Although not a masterpiece, I gave 5 stars for its great dialogue, good acting, well planned storyline that holds up with repeated viewings and the fact that this movie stayed with me. This movie is a dark "in your face" comedy with well defined yet way out there characters. I know other reviewers have provided a synopsis but here's mine: basically it's a story of a man, David Walsh, on the fringe of society who attempts to live the American Dream (good job, nice house, beautiful wife, etc.) and manages to actually live it for a while until a corporate weasel steps in and subsequent decisions made by David seal his fate. For me, this quirky film is one that defines the appeal of the independent genre. No quarter was given on ANY issue and Lions Gate Entertainment studio deserves credit for having guts to put this movie out there. No politically correct jokes found here......or situations for that matter. There is so much offensive behavior to be found that it would take up too much space to list it all and yet that is kind of one of the points of this movie. You almost feel guilty for laughing out loud at certain spots. I can certainly see why this film did not do well at the box office, no on would want to admit in public that certain dialogues or scenes while being offensive were also funny. Yes, there are gay, anti-woman and other the comments made but nothing is relayed with malice, just realism with a twist of dark comedy. Yet to say that this movie is just a dark comedy is to miss the underlying seriousness of the script, which is intelligent by the way. Social commentary is brilliantly interwoven in some very disturbing ways.Read more ›

David Welsh(Matt Dillon) has a tough day. He gets fired from his job, loses his financee and even has his car stolen by a call girl. But, he has a plan. One that will include telling off his former boss, revenging the severe burns he received as a child and land the real girl of his dreams. What could go wrong???

This is "EMployee of the Month"

The film is pretty good because of all the twists involved in the plot. My biggest problem with the film was that these "twists" don't actually take place until the last 10 minutes of the film. The rest is kinda slow moving and struggles to keep the viewers attention. So, in an effort to make the film feel fast moving, the writers added constant techno music to the score, which I found to be extremly annoying.

The acting is pretty good, especially Christina Applegate. I find it amazing to see what a great actress she has become. From her early days as Kelly Bundy on the great "Married with CHildren" to roles such as this and her role in "Anchorman"; she really is fun to watch. Steven Zahn("Riding in Cars with Boys") also gives a good performance.

Overall, I would say this film is worth the watch, not the buy.

ENJOY!

This was a great little straight to video film. Great acting, great story. Go out and rent this film today. I don't understand all these people who gave it one star were thinking but hey these are the same people who gave Scarface one star and called it pure garbage and are the same people who gave Kill Bill one star but gave Gangs of New York 5 stars. Some people got their heads up their butts. So go out and rent it and I will bet you will find yourself loving this film.

I love dark twisted comedies. the script was excellent with excellent performances. you really have to have a sick sense of humor to enjoy this movie. its amusing to see the characters in the movie, do things in a non-chalant matter of fact way(like its normal!!). there are many hidden agendas!(can you trust anyone? everyone?) basically, see the movie with an open mind(people who are warped-excluded). just sit back and enjoy what the characters do and ask yourself(what would I have done). *note:----*when the credits start to roll, make sure you watch everything(do not turn the movie off). much to enjoy.

Those who hated this movie must be the people that love the predictable, formula, cookie-cutter, cliche and usually boring remakes and sequels and clones of other movies. This highly original screenplay covers new ground in a refreshing, off-beat way, and the actors are up to the challenge.
Yes, the behaviour of the characters will seem inappropriate from the beginning. And the people who aleays walk out of the theater BEFORE the credits start rolling will not understand anything they just witnessed, because the characters motivations and secrets are not revealed until during the final credits. The movie "Wild Things" which also starred Matt Dillon, resolved all of the surprising plot twists in this manner, during the end credits. This is a far more valuable use of space than the usual "blooper" reel of ham actors laughing hysterically at eachother for forgetting their lines. This is a very DARK comedy, along the lines of Office Space, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Natural Born Killers, and Wild Things. If you liked those, you will love this.
