I've been studying this book for 4 weeks now and it's awful. The author of this book drones on and on about the same things over and over. He gives hundreds of examples - many of which are unnecessary; there just seems to be so much unnecessary reading to get to his point. Also, I'm currently reading chapter eight which discusses E-Learning and technology. Here's a section of the book where it is imperative to include the most up-to-date information possible and he's talking about laser "disks" and floppy disks - floppy disks being the most common Computer-Based Training technology! And, yes, that's right - he spelled disc with a "K".
And for being an expert in the field of "Training", the layout of his book and the style he chose are so bland and boring. Absolutely no color in his charts or graphs or tables and no photographs. The vocabulary and definitions are mixed in with the main reading content and precise definitions are not always given. The ironic thing is, he teaches that trainers should use these techniques in their training in order to keep their trainees' interest.

If you are a teacher thinking about using this book for your class - please keep looking. There's got to be something better out there!

I purchased this book in the Kindle format for a graduate class I'm taking . I've purchased several e-books and many of my textbooks for grad school and have enjoyed being able to use my iPad for reading and studying. I was disappointed to learn that Amazon has a new Kindle format that doesn't work on my iPad. It took two weeks for the Amazon help desk to tell me why I couldn't download the book to my iPad. Amazon did offer to refund my money, but at that point waiting to order the print edition would have put me behind in my class reading. And, I wanted the digital format, that's why I bought it in the first place. Before I purchased the book I double checked Amazon's information about the number of devices I could download the digital book. It was clear - only 2. My intent was to download to my MacBook AND my iPad. Nowhere did Amazon state that this format would not work on an iPad. Since I've purchased other textbooks from Amazon in digital format it never occurred to me that Amazon would produce a digital format that wouldn't be compatible with iPad. In the future I will be more cautious when purchasing digital books from Amazon.

I just purchased this book for an upcoming class. I knew before I purchased it that I would not be able to use it on my iPad. I also discovered that I can't use it on my Kindle either. Why is it called a Kindle edition if it can't be used on a Kindle?

As a college student I want access to electronic books because of their portability. Requiring that a Kindle edition ebook be viewable only on a Mac or PC defeats the purpose of using ebooks. I do not carry my laptop with me, I do carry my iPad and Kindle.

Don't call it a Kindle edition when it can't be downloaded to a Kindle or a mobile device with a Kindle app.

This is one of the worst school book I've ever had to read. Maybe it's so horrible because the author keeps suggesting ways to improve learning and training, yet the book is not doing anything it is suggesting. Also, the book is copyrighted 2010 but still seems very outdated.

I am amazed that any professor would want me to waste my time reading this book.

All I want is the information, I don't have time to wade through the authors reasoning, judgements, and overly obvious statements. I feel as if I am reading a never ending high school text. No one is reading this book to know why; we already know why that is why we are reading the book -- TEACH US HOW without wasting our time!

I spent some time trying to find an outline for the book on the internet to save time, but haven't been able to.

I am not even in to my full week of class yet and I hate it. To much talk to little facts. This Author talk to much and needs to get down with the facts. To bad that I had to have this book for my class, and its the only one my teacher said that he is going to use.

I felt the textbook was very helpful throughout my course of study and I will be able to apply some of the concepts when developing a needs assessment of a training program. Employee Training & Development

How can a book dedicated to the craft of training and development present information in such a dry, uninspiring way?

Here's an idea: Present the information like an actual 21st century training manual? Graphic rich, bullets, inserts, side bars. Perhaps a little color in the (occasional) black and white illustrations that appear.

This book was selected for a 7 week accelerated course I'm taking. I can't believe anyone in the information age, with easy info at our fingertips in seconds via the internet would actually want to wade through this text to get the few relevant facts presented.

There has to be something better for university level instruction
