It has been a long time since I enjoyed a book so thoroughly. At no point did I feel like I knew what was going to happen next. The writers style is so refreshing too. This is a must ready for any mystery crime novel junkies. I can't wait for the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Legal Pyrotechnics and Fast Paced Thriller, November 26, 2005
This review is from: Employee of the Year (Paperback)
The author, a criminal defense attorney himself, knows of what he writes. And he writes with deft assurance and with interesting, but very flawed chacters. Defense Attorney Joe Bari's takes on his long time friend Paul Feldman as a client. Feldman has been arrested for murdering a cop, supposedly having an affair with Feldman's wife. But all is not as neat and glib as that description. Dirty work abounds in the story set in Richmond, Virginia. Some of that dirty work is done by an intriguing character by the name of Cammy (Washington Sizemore Brown). Cammy works as Bari's private investigator and has to mix it up with some mob characters in order to find out facts and apply some pressure for the defense's case. All is not squeaky clean in this story: the underbelly of police work and the legal system shows. Along with some dirty work involved, there are a few graphic sex scenes. They're not gratuitious but are effective for the gritty characters involved. The courtroom replays are crisp and interesting and shed insight into the thinking and style of the prosecuting and defense legal teams. The book is very well done and is a good and entertaining read. It also would make a good movie, a la Grisham-style, and probably will be. I highly recommended.
