4.0 out of 5 stars For the newbies in HR, April 5, 2008
This book is enjoyable and easy to understand, especially for those new in the HR field or those wanting to understand the HR function. The book covers topics with general information and not for those who are looking for in-depth decription of "how-to" or "what-to-do" in each of the HR functions. Overall, I think it is informative.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy, but only in a 10,000-foot way, September 26, 2011

This text is great for increasing awareness of legal issues, and is valuable as such, but it is not, and really could not be expected to be, a legal guide in the sense of the Nolo press do-it-yourself books.

I'd suggest that it would be more valuable to a manager in a middle-sized firm than in a large firm (which would have its own training and legal staff on call) or than in a small firm, where perhaps there are other texts that could provide a little more step-by-step, such as (I believe) this same publishers guide to writing a company policy manual.
