About the Author

David P. Twomey graduated from Boston College, earned his MBA at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and after two years of business experience, entered Boston College Law School, where he earned his J.D. degree. While a law student, he began his teaching career serving as a Lecturer in Finance and Marketing at Simmons College in Boston. He joined the faculty of the Boston College Carroll School of Management in 1968, as an assistant professor and was promoted to the rank of professor in 1978. Professor Twomey has received numerous teaching and service awards. He has a special interest in curriculum development, serving three terms as chairman of his school's Education Policy Committee. He served as chairman of the Business Law Department for a decade. He has written 27 books and numerous articles on labor, employment, and business law topics. Professor Twomey is a nationally known labor arbitrator, having been selected by the parties as arbitrator in numerous disputes throughout the country in the private and public sectors. In the context of impending nationwide railroad and airline strikes, his service includes appointments by Presidents Reagan, George Bush, Clinton and George W. Bush to seven Presidential Emergency Boards, whose recommendations served as the basis for the resolution of underlying labor disputes. He is a member of the Massachusetts, Florida, and Federal Bars. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.
