Editorial Reviews

Review

"Highly experienced contributors address a wide variety of topics that lie at the core of today’s employment discrimination class action lawsuits. The invaluable advice offered in each chapter makes Employment Discrimination Litigation a ‘must read’ for corporate human resources executives and employment counsel attempting to navigate successfully in an increasingly litigious employment environment."
--Jeffrey A. Norris, Esq., senior partner, McGuiness Norris & Williams, LLP and president, Equal Employment Advisory Counsel

"Frank Landy has produced a primer on fundamental issues in employment litigation. This should be required reading for both experts who work in the field as well as those with less experience who want to learn more about the issues."
--Irwin Goldstein, vice chancellor of academic affairs, University System of Maryland

"As the demographics of the workforce shift dramatically over the next decade, and the applicant pool becomes increasingly diverse, this book is of utmost relevance to those who want to avoid costly employment litigation and hire the best people."
--Mirian Graddick-Weir, executive vice president of human resources, AT&T

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful text, but one without a clear scope, February 9, 2008

This review is from: Employment Discrimination Litigation: Behavioral, Quantitative, and Legal Perspectives (J-B SIOP Professional Practice Series) (Hardcover)
Although I find this reference to be handy for teaching and research, this is a book that tries to be too many different things at once. The chapters can be clumped into three basic groups: those that provide a good overview of a particular employment law or standard (e.g., the ADEA), those that are concerned with the role of I/O psychologists in employment law scenarios, and those that are concerned with statistical trends and applications. Any one of these content areas alone could easily be the basis for an entirely separate book, so the coverage here does feel a little spotty. That said, the chapters are written exceptionally well, and many are authoritative sources of information for the given topic. This isn't the kind of book you should buy to get an overview of employment law, but it's a good addition for those who are looking for deeper insights for a select handful of topics. Further, the book "earned back" another rating star for doing a good job of focusing on the role that I/O psychologists can play as expert witnesses and legal consultants. I know of no other reference that has done so while drawing on so many different perspectives, including those of circuit judges and hostile lawyers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Would buy from again., August 12, 2008
This review is from: Employment Discrimination Litigation: Behavioral, Quantitative, and Legal Perspectives (J-B SIOP Professional Practice Series) (Hardcover)
Product arrived in a timely manner and was as described. I was suprised that it was a hard cover and not paperback, but after checking the listings again realised it was my own error in not reading closely enough. I did not however recieve a confirmation email that my book had been shipped, so that is why I'm only giving 4 not 5 stars, but I wish I could give 4 1/2 since that was the only problem I encountered. I have a small mail slot so have to schedule time in advance to get to the post office and pick up packages. Sudden arrival throws me off.
