I bought this hoop to replace one I bought a couple of years ago made by Gaiam. This hoop doesn't work as well for me as the other one. I am already familiar with basic hooping and can keep it up for as long as I want. I only bought this one because Gaiam no longer makes their own hoop and I left mine in another state. This hoop was PAINFUL! It's metal underneath the foam, and the foam isn't nearly thick enough to make up for it. My stomach isn't perfectly defined, of course, and maybe the extra chunk is making it more uncomfortable. Also the hoop is MUCH larger than my other one. I measured out the diameter when I ordered it and it didn't seem so large. I'm 5'10", so I thought it would be ok. I think to make this usable I will have to wear my Everlast Slimmer belt to pad my tummy a bit. The DVD isn't really about hooping, it's regular circuit moves (squats, pushups, plank) and hooping for a few seconds in between. It isn't a nice-flowing exercise DVD like you may be used to, like 10-minute Solutions or Crunch. This hoop is well-constructed and I know it won't fall apart or anything. But it will definitely take some getting used to.

This product was exactly what I was looking for! I wanted something that I could do indoors (very cold winters where I live), that was quiet (I live in an apartment), and that was fun. I've tried exercise videos and they're great - when I actually do them, which isn't as often as it should be. I wrote down the strength exercises that are interspersed with hooping sessions on the DVD and now I can do my workout while listening to music of my choice or watching a movie or my favorite show. I was a little skeptical of how good of a workout you could get using a hula hoop, but it does get my heart rate up and get me sweating!

The hoop is large so taking it apart is definitely preferable for storing. An earlier review mentioned that the reviewer had a hard time taking it apart, but I haven't found that to be the case for me (and I have arthritis in one of my hands!). The hardest part is finding the tiny buttons you have to press in - they're under the foam coating on the hoop - but once I find them I don't have any problems taking it apart (even with my arthritic hand).

This is the second Empower product I have tried. The first one was an exercise band that broke during the second use.

This hula-hoop works just fine and is nice looking, but it is way too difficult to take apart for storage or travel. Also, when the hoop is put together, it is so large (much larger than a regular hoop I bought at a local toy store before purchasing the weighted hoop), that there is no place to store it in my home without disassembling it. However, this is a nearly impossible feat. In the directions, they make it seem as though it is really easy to take apart, but in fact, it is extremely hard to do. You need to push two buttons in and pull/twist for each segment to pull apart. However, the springs on the buttons are so hard, that my female hands could not push them both in at the same time. Also, the buttons are extremely hard to access. I finally gave up and will be donating this product to a local charity.

A few months ago I saw a segment on the local news about a woman who had strengthened her stomach muscles not through strenuous Pilates or sit ups but through an activity I hadn't attempted since I was a child. Last week, at my local sports equipment store, I happened upon this kit which includes one hoop (in pieces) and a DVD with an exercise routine demonstrating some uses for the hoop other than just the actual hula hoop activity. The price was right for a weighted (3lbs) hoop that I could collapse for travel. I couldn't wait to try it out.

I as not disappointed with the concept. The hoop works and I can sustain the exercise for as long as I want. I can watch television or listen to music while I do it in comfort of my air-conditioned home.

However there are some problems with the kit that must be addressed.

The Cardio Core Hoop kit comes with a hoop segmented in pieces that for the most part are easy to put together--there is a button that clicks in to secure the piece within the hoop--however, the last segment doesn't glide in easily, some force is necessary as well as a simultaneous holding in on the button which makes for some moments of confusion especially when the desire is there to get on with the workout. Once the hoop is assembled to satisfaction--meaning all the sections are clicked in--the hoop cannot be disassembled with any ease whatsoever. I gave up and just put the hoop behind my dresser to store. Regrettably, I purchased the hoop to take with me when I travel, but the dis-ease of getting it back into its original pieces makes this virtually impossible. In addition, this hoop is not as padded as I would like; I had some black and blue marks after use.

The hoop left my waist sore. The hoop is too heavy. The DVD instructions are basically: Do 2-6 minutes of hooping for cardio and core workout while the DVD is stopped, then re-start the DVD and the instructor runs you through a short session of either pushups, situps, etc. Then, turn the DVD off and do 2-6 minutes of hooping on your own. The DVD is really of no value. I returned this package to the store I bought it from (which was not Amazon).
