5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT, April 11, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Empress of the Underworld (Seven Sleepers Series #6) (Book 6) (Paperback)
This was an extremely enjoyable book. I am a twenty-something and I was enthralled....I had to read it before I gave it to my young sister as a gift....I wanted to be sure that it was a good book. I certainly did not want to give her something that did not represent the values that we have. The young girl Abbey rebels against going on the next mission with the sleepers, she is very vain and wants to stay away so that she can improve her appearance. There is a slight romance in the friendship between two of the characters -- however it is quite pure and fun -- conducted in a manner that shows mutual respect and shared beliefs, a very important thing to represent in this day in age. Although, I must admit that it may be my sense of romance that finds this. Anyways, the real point of the book is Abbey overcoming her vanity. She becomes a slave to the empress who has brainwashed her. This causes her to think that the empress is showing her "the truth" which is (as always when The Adversary is involved)a monumental lie. Only when the true prince of the underground society reminds her of the horror she saw when she first came causes her to come back to reality and find "Goel" in her life..... The rest....aah...the rest is for you to figure out... I would never give the ending completely away. I wanted this to be an outline of the important parts...not a plot summary....I may have failed! :)

1.0 out of 5 stars Kindle version: missing quotes and apostophes, February 2, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
For some reason, the kindle version of this books is missing all apostrophes and quotes. So when you run into a paragraph where a character talks, you see something like this:

Im worried about all of us, he said. Look at this! He held up the tattered shoe and shook his head. Its falling to pieces.

It should read:

"I'm worried about all of us," he said. "Look at this!" He held up the tattered shoe and shook his head. "It's falling to pieces."

Somehow the conversion from the book text to the digital form got messed up. I'd give the book 3 stars if it wasn't for this glaring error. It's a bit difficult to read out loud to my daughter when I have to keep a keen eye out to know when a character is speaking and change my voice inflection. The publisher needs to fix this.

Also, and I've found this in all the kindle versions of books from this series so far, there are missing spaces from time to time between words. That's not as frequent, but still frustrating.

This series is rather cheesy, but it's supposed to be, it's for kids. I read the whole series to my oldest two kids when they were younger, now reading to my youngest. I just wish they had it formatted correctly for kindle. I'm considering asking for my money back and checking it out from the library instead.

This book is a real thriller! It keeps you on the edge of your seat and you just want to keep turning the page. This is a must have book. This book tells the story of how Abbey is lead to the underworld and begins to trust the Empress and fear the underlings unknowing of what's really in store for her.
