5.0 out of 5 stars Rock The Blues!
I was VERY surprised when I heard this CD, just got it on a whim. DAMN! He covers BB King, Stevie Ray, and Jimi on one album -- the cool thing, though, is that he covers them WELL! Better than well, this guy is killer, listen to me..... if you dig Stevie Ray's early upbeat stuff this is a fresher, more rockin version of it. Very cool, very very cool. I don't know...

3.0 out of 5 stars Jimmy has done better
This album is quite good, providing great rocking blues. However, when you compare it to 'wild night out' this album pales in comparison.

5.0 out of 5 stars Killer bar-room blues, December 13, 1998
This review is from: Empty Arms Motel (Audio CD)
Crisp, driving blues. Great vocals and guitar. Good original material mixed with well selected covers. "Payin' the Cost to be the Boss" is an excellent take on the old B.B. King tune. The title cut is a well-written original. Many other terrific cuts. Highly recommended.

"At the Empty Arms Motel the blues is complimentary."

This guy can shred the guitar! Saw him live here in Kansas City at the Grand Emporium and heard him do things with the guitar that I hadn't heard since Stevie Ray died.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thackery Is One The Best Blues Guitarists On The Scene, April 16, 2011

Jimmy Thackery is one of the best blues guitarists around. His talents should make him known to a far wider audience than he seems to have but such are the unfortunate realities in the lives of musicians. Thackery is one of those guys whose name should be instantly recognized among blues fans, but whose name is not that well known. Too bad.

This is one of Thackery's first releases and it's an excellent album. If you like blues guitar, then this album is well worth your attention. There are some Thackery originals along with covers of such great guitar players as Jimi Hendrix (Red House), Stevie Ray Vaughn (Rude Mood), B.B. King (Paying The Cost To Be The Boss) and Bo Diddley (I Can Tell).

Thackery is a guy who could share a stage with any of those players.

If you like artists like Stevie Ray Vaughn and B.B. King, you'll like this Thackery release.
