A whole new perspective on Martial Energy,
By A Customer
This review is from: Empty Force: The Ultimate Martial Art: The Power of Chi for Self-Defense and Energy Healing (Paperback)
I became acquainted with martial arts and qigong some years ago. I was introduced to "Empty Force" through an on-line chat room friend who recommended the book to me. At first I found it hard to believe that such an ability was possible, let alone existed. I was particularly taken with the chapter portion written by Rich Mooney. I contacted Master Mooney and had him come to my school for a seminar. Paul Dong must be an excellent teacher, because even though I was skeptical of the material, I found out in short order that the ability of Ling Kong Jing was very real. While the instructions given in the book are in some places not very clear, Master Mooney was able to place them all into a clear and concise perspective. The seminar he taught, from the teachings of his Master, revealed to me and other students present, that there is more to this method than meets the eye.I had several long time martial arts people present at the seminar, some with over 20 years of training behind them. Fully 90% of them had read the book, and thought that it was a scam of some type. After the seminar and demonstrations were concluded, they all had gained respect for the method, and the teachers of the method: Master Paul Dong, and his Senior Student, Master Richard Mooney. The ones who have posted the comments that the book is dumb, or that the method is fantasy have obviously never tried to train in the method, been taught the method by anyone competent in the method, or are so shaken by the implications presented in the manual, that they go into intellectual shutdown. In closing I wish to thank Master Paul Dong for revealing the training method presented in his book.

Empty Force is REAL.,

This review is from: Empty Force: The Ultimate Martial Art: The Power of Chi for Self-Defense and Energy Healing (Paperback)
I have read the book ,I have practiced empty force exercises, and I have personally taken private lessons with Master Dong. The "force" is very real. This book teaches you the essential practices and theories to develop and use you own energies. The private lessons teaches the serious practicioner the untold details and hands on guidance from a master. The "chi" is what one would use in order to move objects (telekinesis)or body parts(biofeedback)with his or her mind. There is a section where this will be taught, and if taken seriouslly, it CAN be achieved. I have felt the chi and believe in it. This book will teach you concentration, discipline and meditation. If you have any further questions I will be more than happy to help you and answer your questions @yousay1@aol.com.---

A Most Excellent Primer on Standing Meditation!,

This review is from: Empty Force: The Ultimate Martial Art: The Power of Chi for Self-Defense and Energy Healing (Paperback)
I recently purchased this book after having attended a seminar by one of the book's co-authors, Master Richard M. Mooney (Pages 36, 113-116). The Power in Powerful Empty Force is quite real and valid. I was a skeptic until I almost threw up when projected onto by this Empty Force Master. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn the basics of this fascinating martial arts method. Some other have complained that this book contains no info on limbering up and meridians and such. Well, there are many other books that do, and I am glad this manual did not have a bunch of peripheral information NOT related to the subject at hand.Another writer said the method is useless on about 60% of attackers; to that I ask what method is 100% effective all the time? None Are! So, if you are interested in just sitting on your duff and not doing the exercises, but are instead waiting for some peer reviewed material, too bad. If you are a true visionary and have an open and exploring mind, and want to see and do for yourself, then this is the book for you. Best Wishes; N. Duarte

Use Qigong to Enrich your life,

This review is from: Empty Force: The Ultimate Martial Art: The Power of Chi for Self-Defense and Energy Healing (Paperback)
Empty Force is a manual on Standing Meditation concerning the practice as it applies to martial arts and healing arts. As a participant in the book, I feel a duty to review my teacher's work. The abilities described are valid, and replicable under a wide range of circumstances. For such a small book there is a lot of information presented, and I feel that the author or the editor should have gone into greater detail about the subtle body alignments that take place when you sink down into a good rooted posture. If you're looking for a good basic book otherwise, this is the one for you. It will give the reader a firm basic grounding in the art of standing meditation. If the directions in the book are followed, and if competent skilled instruction in this method can be found at least once during the training period, then great results can and will follow. many of the things you will learn and discover will come through as your practice matures and lengthens. the pr! ! actice of standing meditation is also beneficial for the muscles, especially the legs. It increases stamina, endurance, discipline and determination. It is quite a demanding exercise both physically and mentally. I want to take this time to personally and publically thank Master Paul Dong and Mr. Thomas Raffill for their efforts, and the positive changes that have resulted in my life as a direct result of my practice of Zhan Zhuang (Standing Meditation).

Explore the possibilities,
This review is from: Empty Force: The Ultimate Martial Art: The Power of Chi for Self-Defense and Energy Healing (Paperback)
I came across the book "Empty Force" from a student of mine. I found it to be very interesting for when I was much younger I saw a demonstration of Empty Force skills. I was very surprised at what I saw, but never found a person who could move me without touching me. I have tried the exercises in the book and have had some success in moving students and friends without touching.I feel the book is a good purchase, as the method is detailed enough to follow along. One of the other reviewers mentioned several styles like small san shou, and dragon prawn boxing. I know the instructor of those methods, and the reviewer, his student is merely parroting his teacher, who has never done the training for Empty Force. I have advice for those such as he. Before you would castigate a method as unreal, perhaps you should at least do some training in the method. Explore the possibilities of the human mind before making an unfounded and prejudicial statement. Oh, and by the way, I am 50 years old, and have been doing martial arts since 1957.

Empty Force - an unmissable source of information,
This review is from: Empty Force: The Ultimate Martial Art: The Power of Chi for Self-Defense and Energy Healing (Paperback)
After purchasing many books on Ki energy and its techniques, I finally found a book that contained the relevant information. Most books only contain one point of view, the authors, and little else. This book however, contains thoughts, information and techniques. If you wish you could skip straight to chapter seven and teach yourself the Empty Force development techniques, although I would enthusiastically recommend reading all chapters. A must have for any martial artist interested in developing internal power.

Completely legitimate,

This review is from: Empty Force: The Ultimate Martial Art: The Power of Chi for Self-Defense and Energy Healing (Paperback)
I have been studying Asian martial arts for 15 years now. I became a student of Richard Mooney's through my teacher in Florida. Richard and I spent some time together, and I practiced for years the qigong postures and the meditations that follow. I visited Grandmaster Sifu Mooney in Texas around 2001. He tested my abilities on Lin Kong Jing, Wai Qi Liao Fa, and Sitting and Standing TaiJi Ruler. I was certified in all of those and have been given the title Sifu by Richard Mooney. I have since taught many people meditative and martial arts, and can assure you that Lin Kong Jing is real, despite the skepticism of uneducated and untrained people who judge things they know little about. Unfortunately, contempt prior to investigation is a surefire way to stay in everlasting ignorance. If you want to contact me, email me at "lin_kong_jing@yahoo.com" I will be more than happy to talk or teach with you. David V.

Emptyforce more than just for self defence,

This review is from: Empty Force: The Ultimate Martial Art: The Power of Chi for Self-Defense and Energy Healing (Paperback)
Less than a hundred years ago the definative skeptics were claiming that it was scientifically impossible for a machine to fly. Today the definative skeptics are attempting to discredit this amazing human ability by designing bad experiments. But anyone who has spend time with Paul Dong would have personality experience this ability, to project this force and move people without physically touching them. If you were to get closer, about an inch, to Paul Dong you can experience first hand a very strong force. While it may yet take another hundreds years for western science to ascertain this force, I believe that in the streets and in competitive sports, it will become dominant. I believe that this book is an excellent resource and perhaps a testimony to what a type of exercise that may well change the face of sports and science.

Excellent Book,

I believe this is an excellent book on the subject of Empty Force. I don't really believe that I would advise a beginner of the internal arts to try and learn from this book. I would advise them to try a more simple book on chi kung or tai chi just to get started. I wanted a more advanced book and with (Empty Force : The Ultimate Martial Art: The Power of Chi for Self-Defense and Energy Healing) that's exactly what I got.

This book contains inadequate information about the energy meridians. This book contains inadequate exercizes to limber the joints, muscles and tendons before practising Zhan Zhaung (pronounced Jan Jong). Zhan Zhaung is one of the most demanding forms of exercizes ever developed. If you're interested in Zhan Zhaung take a look at "The Way of Energy" by Lam Kam Chuen. If this book is unavailable. "Chi Gung" by L.V. Carnie would be a good second choice. The author of the review below is absolutely correct in regards to the effectiveness of Zhan Zhaung, but this is NOT the book to learn Zhan Zhaung from.
