Editorial Reviews

About the Author

"There are too few Christian examples in our world today," says Judy Baer, author of the new Cedar River Daydreams Series. I want to offer young readers an alternative to good exciting reading with a Christian point of view.

Judy began to write professionally in l983; since then she has had numerous books published and was the recipient of the 1991 first place for juvenile fiction presented by the National Federation of Presswomen..

Judy Baer feels that the Cedar River Daydreams series is in many ways a dream come true for a writer. "Its a messy world we live in. Sometimes it is difficult to tie problems into neat packages and solve them by page two hundred. The Daydreams series will allow both author and reader to follow characters through their joys and disappointments, through their growth and maturation, through the teenage years. Any problem or situation that teenagers face may someday be a topic of a Daydreams novel.

Remembering vividly her own feelings and emotions as a teenager helps her develop stories that ring true to teens. Judy says,"If the characters in Daydreams can in some way act as role models or encourage readers to hold fast to the Christian faith, then I will have reached my goal. I want to create readable, enjoyable, uplifting and just plain fun books that will keep readers coming back for more."

More About the Author

Judy was born and grew up on a farm on the prairies of North Dakota. An only child, she spent most of her days with imaginary people--either those she read about or those she made up in her head. Her most ambitious conjuring did not succeed, however. She kept a clean stall with fresh hay and oats for the horse she imagined would arrive. Unfortunately it didn't come, at least not until she was an adult. After she was unexpectedly given three horses, she bought even more and began raising foundation quarter horses.

She graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota with majors in English and education and a minor in religion. At the time, she was simply studying what interested her, but now realizes that she was educating herself for her future career as a Christian writer. Her first book was written with a toddler on her lap. Judy would type a few words and say "Now, Jennifer." He two year old daughter would hit the space bar so Judy could continue writing. It was't the fastest way to work but it was a very cozy time.

In 2001 Judy became a certified professional life coach. In 2008 Judy completed her Master's program. She studied in the areas of writing and coaching. Now certified in three coaching disciplines, Judy coaches primarily professional and aspiring writers. She is also a faculty advisor in the Department of Human Development at St. Mary's University in Minneapolis, MN. She is married, lives in Minnesota, has two daughters and three step children.

She is the author of more than 75 books. She grew up in rural North Dakota and has done many of the things her Hilltop characters experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eating Disorders..., March 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Fill My Empty Heart (Cedar River Daydreams #8) (Paperback)
This book is about eating disorders. Lexi's friend, AnnaMarie, is teased by an arrogant gym teacher and thus develops anorexia. I think the book is great, because it goes through the stages of the disorder, such as AnnaMarie's increasing obsession with exercise and barely eating. Finally one night something really frightening happens to AnnaMarie and she must face the facts and get help. I would recommend this book for anyone, expecially girls ages 10+.
