5.0 out of 5 stars Superb CD, January 4, 2006
This review is from: Empty Streets (Audio CD)
I bought this cd well-knowing what to expect after hearing the group's tracks on Hed Kandi compilation releases. Tracks like "Seemingly Sleepy," "Empty Streets," "All For Nothing," and "Nothing Left To Say" were all personal favorites.

Being a down-tempo fan, I was surprised to find that such tracks like "Rainy Days," "Eros" and "Sunrise Comes Too Soon" were also very good. Think soft, whispery-vocals that slightly resemble Björk, except with a soft & smooth jazzy style that mixes Kaskade's best house music and Naked Music down-tempo (e.g. Aya, Carte Blanche).

Kaskade, being one of the members of this solid group, dosen't fail to disappoint. If you are a fan of Hed Kandi, Kaskade or Miguel Migs, you'll be very pleased with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable album, October 25, 2005
This review is from: Empty Streets (Audio CD)
I've always enjoyed Late Night Alumni. My introduction to them was through the inclusion of their songs on Hed Kandi compilations. I rushed out to find this cd as soon as it was released. I am not disapointed in the least. It's a nice relaxing album to listen to anytime, morning or night. It's very chillout with a hint of electronica thrown in. Highlights include the title track, "Seemingly Sleepy", "Beautiful", "Meant To Be", "Nothing Left to Say" and the latin influenced "The Rest of You". Check it out!

When I first heard the song "Empty Street" by Late Night Alumni on last.fm I was so mesmorized by the vocal. It was soft and easy, yet the beats were along its vocal to give you a little move to your body. It's a really nice, relaxing CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly spectacular work; my favorite album to this day., February 3, 2011

The music industry is an interesting beast. One week after another, popular music culture shifts rapidly and is often unpredictable, especially these days. More often than not, chart toppers leave me wondering about the human race and their ability to appreciate music. Of course, this is all in my opinion, and I know many folks who love today's radio hits. But I digress. Among it all, there are always a few groups who somehow manage to squeeze out the essence from music in a way that transcends mere words. Late Night Alumni is such a group, and I cannot understate how brilliant and beautiful their music is.

To start, the main vocalist, Becky Jean Williams, has an angelic voice that is simply magical. When you add the amazing rhythms of Ryan Raddon (Kaskade), orchestrations of John Hancock, and ethereal moods of Finn Bjarnson, you get works of art, plain and simple. They are the real deal, and their music is so incredibly refreshing to listen to. Perhaps what is even more impressive is their ability to transcend genre boundaries. Late Night Alumni is generally listed as a Dance/House/Electronica group, but those aren't really accurate descriptors. Yes, they have some tracks that fall into these genres, but LNA's music is a genre in and of itself; once you listen to it, you'll understand what I mean.

As a musician myself, I must mention that this group is such a huge inspiration. The feelings that are expressed through their music are very powerful, and I strive to include similar emotion-invoking passages in my music.

While not every song on this album is a masterpiece, the vast majority of them are. I can't say that about many albums. Besides "All for Nothing" and "Heaven", which I could do without (not that they are bad tracks by any stretch of the imagination), every song on this album is an A+ work in my book, especially compared to much of the garbage out there today. LNA's second album, "Of Birds, Bees, Butterflies, etc..." is very good as well, but also very different in style, and I don't think it approaches this album in smoothness and consistency, but it is still great. Their third album, "Haunted", will be released shortly, and it looks to be a return to the style of "Empty Streets". I look forward to owning it.

Highly recommended.

Although I've loved LNA since their first single came out, I haven't really pursued their albums until now. I'm glad I finally have their first complete album on CD. To all you down tempo lovers out there, enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Music, January 5, 2011

I am a big fan of Kaskade and stumbled upon LNA when I heard Empty Streets, which is a magnificent piece in itself. I heard a few remixes of that song and was hooked for more LNA so I picked up their most recent album, Of Birds, Bees, Butterflies, etc. I fell in love with that album almost instantly and put my order in for this album. I searched high and low for a digital copy of it, but had to wait for the disc. I was not disappointed. What an amazing album it is! I highly recommend LNA to anyone who enjoys beautiful music and great production. Becky Jean Williams has a gorgeous voice. Buy this and their other album. New one to drop Feb 8th and based on the samples posted on their fb page, it will be another worthy album to purchase and enjoy for years to come!
