Book Description

May 12, 1995 0122830601 978-0122830600
This book provides a modern overview of the principles governing emulsion polymerization, a topic of both academic and industrial importance. The reader is provided with the mathematical, physical and technical tools to understand the mechanisms and physical chemistry of these systems, particularly the major advances of the last 15 years. The book describes the mechanisms that govern the various aspects of an emulsion polymerization, and how from appropriate experimental studies, the dominant mechanisms in a particular system may be deduced. From such deductions, the means are developed whereby the properties of the result of the emulsion polymerization can be quantitatively modelled and trends can be qualitatively understood and predicted. This book opens the way to the intelligent, knowledge-based design that is the future for improvements and innovations in products and processes from this important technology.

Provides a thoroughly up-to-date overview of the principles and practices of emulsion polymerization
Contains mathematical, physical, and technical tools which enable the reader to understand the mechanisms and physical chemistry used in the field
Includes extensive exercises with model answers

Editorial Reviews

Review

This is probably the most comprehensive book yet published on emulsion polymerization, using a critical but useful approach to a highly complex subject, which, after 70 years of study, still has many problems unsolved theoretically, even if there have been enormous advances in theory and technical practice.
--H. Warson in POLYMER INTERNATIONAL
This is an excellent text of value not only to research scientists but also to polymer science students learning the basic fundamentals of emulsion polymerisation and those encountering the complexities involved in emulsion polymerization research projects. The author has gone to considerable trouble to help the reader fully understand the complex nature of emulsion polymerisation. Another pleasing aspect of the text is the large number of graphic

This review is from: Emulsion Polymerization (Colloid Science) (Hardcover)
This is a well-written and comprehensive review of the current state-of-the-art (1995) in understanding emulsion polymerization mechanisms. There is extensive mathematical detail, but key results are highlighted, making it a useful reference as well. References are complete and up-to-date. This is a useful guide for anyone who practices emulsion polymerization. (Opinions expressed are my own.)
