This review is from: En Concert (Audio CD)
En Concert displays the depth and breadth of this talented group of youngsters, who gained fame in the Les Choristes film. Although the live concert is not as polished as the recording studio version of pieces from "Le Choristes" (the movie) which appear here, there is a audio presence and energy in the concert hall that the studio version lacks. Jean Baptiste Maunier, one of the stars and the soloist in the movie, shines in a number of the choral pieces here. But nothing, absolutely nothing can prepare you for the power of his rendering of Pueri Concinite in this CD. I've listened to it literally hundreds of times and yet it can still move me to tears; it will touch your soul. Jean Baptiste Maunier's voice was a miracle and he hits notes here that are ethereal. This recording of Pueri Concinite is transcendant and this was arguably among the five greatest minutes of choral history. Buy the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING CD, August 23, 2010

There are some CDs that you will keep forever and this is one of them. For those who have seen the film you will know all of the music. One of the nicest aspects of the CD is that it is a 'live' recording - warts and all! The singing is far from perfect but still wonderful. This is a unique CD

5.0 out of 5 stars Les Choristes en concert, May 3, 2009

The beutiful voices of the boys choir from the movie "Les Choristes" make this album of selections from the movie, as well as non-movie choral performances, an enjoyable listening experience.

If you loved the French movie 'Les Choristes (The Chorus') and its soundtrack like I did then you will also love 'Les Choristes - en concert!' I saw the movie when it was first released and although I do not speak French, the music brought me to tears. Now just a hint of its themes bring those tears right back. I had no idea until recently that these children had also performed the songs of this wonderful movie in concert. When I stumbled across this recording I made no hesitation to secure myself a copy, and just as I had expected, it is absolutely beautiful! The blend of their voices are heavenly and the soloist Jean Baptiste hits notes that I didn't think was humanly possible. As a bonus for mono-linguists like me they even toss in a couple of surprise numbers in English which are as equally moving. I guess like always a French movie is a hard sell in the U.S., but the American audience does not know what they are missing here, and I think that it could be a worldwide instant timeless classic if it were just pushed a little harder. I know that if I were a school teacher I'd make it a yearly tradition to show this movie to my students, and just know that they would be forever touched by it. In some ways it feels like a French 'Sound of Music'. Weather you speak French or not do not hesitate to see this movie, and I promise that you too will want a copy of it, its soundtrack and this concert recording as well!
